Pretence!
Have you heard of the phrase "wolves in sheep clothing". I trust you must have. The above phrase is used to illustrate the act of being something or someone that one isn't, which is mostly done for selfish reasons.
The first place where I actually got to know about this act of pretence when I was a young growing and inquisitive child was from the bible. The very popular story of how Jacob tricked his blind father and stole Esau's blessings is a perfect example that this act of pretence has long been in existence.
Without mincing words, it is evident that pretence and deceit go hand in hand, as one is often the end result of the other. The older generation may have originated it, that is jacob who stole his brother's blessing leaving Esau with almost nothing, but it has fully well spread into our generation right now and has become the order of the day.
The popular yahoo engaged in by teens and adults today thrives on the ability to deceive people into believing them. They pretend to either be in love, own a business or need help. When the help comes, they cart away with it and buy the most expensive cars and build the most beautiful houses, without care for their usually broken benefactors.
I don't think I need to further ask why it is that people pretend to be what they are not because I believe it is obvious that they do so for the things that they stand to gain.
An identity built on a fallacy will definitely crumble one day and quite frankly I think these pretenders know this and just keep up their act for when it lasts.
Take for example a girl who pretends to be all respectful and loyal to a man, who jumps at his every command and runs his errands without so much as a complaint. Said girl may just be doing all of this just so that she gets married and the moment that she does, all the charade and pretence ends and she begins to show who she is because what she wants has been achieved.
There are many marriages that have broken because partners have found out that the person that they fell in love with was not the real person they said they were.
I've often heard people say that they can not fall into the hand of pretentious people but the truth is one can never be too smart to detect pretence because these people often do their jobs like pro's and are willing to go to any length to get what they want.
I heard of a story of a university student who was from a not so rich background but feigned that she was a child of the elite. All her friends in school thought of her as a rich man's child and that was the story she sold to them for years. A day came that her mother brought her foodstuffs In school and just came to see her unannounced, she called her mother their house maid in the presence of her friends and the woman was shocked to her bones.
This is just to illustrate how desperate these people can be. If someone can call their biological mother a slave, I don't see who else they can't deal with.
Author's Epilogue
Pretence is nothing good but you will still find that most people will still rather be a wolf in sheep's clothing than appear as the wolf that they really are.
I guess we just need to pray to God to not encounter such people in life cos the feeling of being deceived is not one that anybody should pray to feel.
I've heard enough and seen enough and I want it to end there without me experiencing it.
Thanks for reading, you're far too kind.

Life has changed a lot, nothing is the same as before, now we have to learn to know our friends and accept them as they are, otherwise we will be alone forever. It is not necessary to have thousands of friends, have many, but trust in those who show you their love the most.
