Since I am out of topic. I dedicate this to everyone around whose not well aware of their Kitchen Sink. Like the title itself, Know Your Sink! If you are all aware of it, wow, you can read still, if I missed something with the parts. And we can talk about it on the comments. If you aren't aware tho, well this one is for you. I hope you find time to read this!
By the way, if you are wondering the difference between, lavatories and kitchen sink, their uses are both similar- to drain, but differ in areas and what to drain, lavatories are commonly seen on comfort rooms and powder rooms which most likely drain only waste water which is mostly clean, meanwhile kitchen sink, is on kitchen area or service area which drains water that may contain oil, and grease. And kitchen sink has more wider area of waste discharge than lavatories.
Kitchen Sink
Kitchen sink, includes drain, faucets, and level rim of water.
But I am not writing about all of that, as I know most of you have seen all of it, and is aware about it.
Lets tackle more all about behind of these fixtures. The one can't be seen in the eyes. You want that? Okay let's get it on.
Lets start with faucet. If your faucet in kitchen have water heater, these topic is not for you. Lol. Because, that part is still beyond my studies and it includes, electrical, in which I am not yet inclined. But yeah you could still read through. Maybe there can be similar in a way.
Some kitchen faucets are wall type to maximize the space and mostly if you are meticulous or very particular and you want a wide area for your sink, ledge type is the best choice for you.
If you wish to change your faucets. You just have to turn off the gate valve where your faucet is connected. Most of the time, these gatevalves are located behind the kitchen sink.
In changing wall type faucets it is much easier as when you bought faucets you'll just remove the old one by rotating the faucets counter or counter clockwise depending on the way it was installed and you can finally replace it, make sure that teflon is available when you do it.
While on ledge type faucets you still have to remove the angle valve under the kitchen sink and the plug, flexible hose before you can finally change one.
Image above shows the following.
Gate Valve
Flexible hose
Double way angle valve
Bottle trap
Lavotory drain
The image 4 above shows the common composition of your kitchen sink.
The main purpose of the gate valve is to turn off and on the water coming through your faucets. However some of gate valves in the Philippines are installed near the water meter, which in some cases, could be a hassle.
Flexible hose are the one that is connected to the water line to the the faucet. If you can see the photos there are two flexible hose present, and it is because the faucet type installed in the sink has a provision for cold and hot water.
Angle valves hold the flexible hose and can also regulates the water pressure coming out through your faucets.
Bottle traps, u-pipe, p-trap, are most commonly use in kitchen sink while grease trap are most commonly used in large kitchens, like on restaurant or laboratories and the likes. The main purpose of this is to trap the waste disposed through your lavatory drains and provide a smooth flow of waste, also to prevent back flow and to trap the smell of the drainage pipes. If you look at the white bottom of the trap, it can be removed and you can checked it when your kitchen doesn't flow smoothly. Because, more of the waste is probably stuck in that area, like a chunk of dust, food and grease.
Also make sure that the pipe out from your trap shall be connected above the drainage piping to prevent back flow! Hehe like the photo shown below.
I hope you get what I mean! Haha 😆 And drain pipe shall be larger than the pipe of the traps!
Moreover when changing kitchen lavatory drains, it is much more easy like changing faucets! But that is if there is a need to change. As I have mention if you have a problem regarding not sinking waste and your sink is already full and the water is slowly dropping, you check the traps' clean out, and remove the waste in the trap!
