What Will Happen After May 9?

Days seem to move fast, but in reality, they don't. It feels like I just woke up a few moments ago, and now the sun has set and the sky has turned dark.

Today is May 3, and it means that only six days are left for the election to start. Of course, we are now hearing and seeing more campaigns, and they are making extra efforts to win the hearts of voters. Some have other intentions, while others have good ones.

If you haven't decided yet on who to vote for, you should not just vote for someone else. Instead, spend the remaining days before the election getting to know each of the candidates and scanning their profiles. Don't just focus on their popularity, but instead examine their background and platforms and assess whether they are really deserving of winning.

As voters, we play a big role in voting for the most deserving ones. Don't get fooled by misinformation and money. Be vigilant and do not waste your vote. Each vote matters and could make a difference, so vote wisely.

However, there is something that keeps my mind preoccupied these days. I wonder what the situation will be like after the elections. I mean, the virus is just around the corner, and since many are saying that the election is what temporarily limits the spread of it, what will happen after May 9?

On that day, the majority of Filipinos will go out and go to the voting areas to vote. With this, the voting areas will be filled with lots of people, and proper distancing may not be guaranteed to be kept most of the time.

However, the following things are what I can advise to avoid huddling with others in the voting areas and mitigate some possible circumstances that might happen:

Go to the voting area early. You may set an alarm to help you wake up early on that very day so you can finish voting early and avoid getting crowded. This is the first in line because it is proven to be effective.

Wear a double mask if possible. Since it is a given that a lot of people will go there like you, it is not overreacting to wear double masks. Besides, it is for our own good. Anyway, this is just a piece of advice, so you will not regret it if something else happens. It may not be a hundred percent sure that you will not get infected, but it will at least mitigate and lessen the risk.

Aside from these things, you may also prepare some things so you can vote efficiently. This includes preparing a list of whom you will vote for so you will not forget once you're there. It is not only for the elderly but for everyone. Ensure that you know exactly where your voting station is so that you can cast your ballot without any issues.

Hopefully, the most deserving one to lead our country will win. To make that happen, I want to reiterate again that it is in our hands. So, let's do our part and focus more on what we can do now than on what could happen after it.

I'm thinking the candidates we vote are not deserving to win, but the ones WE DESERVE. They will be the ones to be our voice, not only amplifying our needs but finding ways to solve our most immediate concerns.
