World Food Day
Howdy yummy Sunday! Let’s talk about food, why not?
Today, October 16, we celebrate World Food Day. I know there’s no point in celebrating it because there is no day that we don’t think about food, apparently we’re thinking about it three times a day, and for some, five to six times depending on your mood, or hormones, lol!
However, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization established this day as such not for all our gluttonous eating pleasures, rather to promote world food security especially for parts of the world that has problems with poverty. Furthermore, to raise awareness about countries suffering from hunger and starvation, and inadequate supply of water.
Unfortunately, a lot of people in the world are not getting enough food, to think that this is one of man's very basic needs to survive. So, today, I pray that people around the world are having enough food on their plates to live another day.
I have seen the news from the Manila Bulletin today regarding the World Food day theme from the Department of Education;
“Leave no one behind. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all." - World Food Day theme
Obviously, it aims to educate us that we all need healthy food, diet, and nutrition. It is cognizant that nowadays food has been mostly instant from fast foods and restaurants, brought about by the influx of food delivery service made affordable and convenient because of technology. Most of the busy people in the working class would opt for junk foods and easy to prepare food packs, not to mention sodas, fruit juices in tetra packs, coffee etc. are widely accessible even on vending machines. With our demanding lifestyle and technology, we resort to unhealthy food choices and lose the significance of the balanced diet and nutrition that predisposes us to health risks and diseases. Sad, but true.
Last week, I handled one in-patient, an endomorph teenager, 19 years old, who experienced a Cerebrovascular Accident or Stroke. Certainly, not a disease for the elderly anymore. During history taking, we found out that the kid has been on a drinking spree for two consecutive days! Seriously, this left me flabbergasted.
Food, and every little pleasure we ingest, will somehow affect our body positively and negatively. It is always our personal responsibility to be conscious of what kind of food we indulge. It is also imperative to know the healthy food pyramid, even the grade schoolers know about this. Guess, we should also review which is which?
So, are we still mindful about our food and diet? I admit, I have completely forgotten about this food pyramid that serves like a basic reminder on how to balance the kind of foods I am eating. While thinking about what to include in this article I realized that we all need to be reminded once again.
Lastly, World Food Day would be a great opportunity to look into the popular foods our country have, I bet my foreign friends from here would also love to explore. You can check out my previous articles;

In addition, who want to taste the Philippine's most famous street food! Balut. It is an incubated duck egg with a developing embryo inside, cooked by steaming and best eaten while still hot, sprinkled with salt or spicy vinegar.
Who like some balut?
Enjoy!

I feel for them. It's so disheartening that a lot of people don't have what to eat while some have abundant. I have friends who give food to the less privileged. It's the most beautiful part of him that I love. Thanks for the reminder
