Google registered with SECP to open a Liaison Office in Pakistan
December 12, 2022The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) had been in trying hard to bring international companies to Pakistan. But, the companies were reluctant due to the political instability. However, Google is the first company who agreed and then TikTok to set up their offices in Pakistan. Moreover, talks of the ministry is ongoing with the Facebook, which hopefully will soon be come to it deal.
Yesterday, I was talking to @Zainab_Fatima (via Message in noise. app), who told that Google is about to open his office in Pakistan. Due to some reasons I couldn't read any news about this. Actually, the main reason is that I don't read any newspaper or watch news.
Anyways, today I researched about the MoU, registration and other understanding between Pakistan government and Google Corporation. The following is a summary what I found and read
Google registered itself with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) as in line with the “Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021”, social media companies had to open offices in the country.
While read I came across this certificate.
As per the above document it was November 08, 2022 when Google was registered in Pakistan by SECP, to opens a liaison office in Pakistan.
According to different news Google has now opened a liaison office in Pakistan.

A liaison office is an office of a foreign company established for promotion of products, provision of technical advice and assistance, exploring the possibility of joint collaboration and export promotion.
According to a report published at Business Recorded
Mr. Farhan Siddique Qureshi (Google Country Director for Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh) said that Pakistan has proved itself as a high-growth market and any technological advancement, including the expected rollout of 5G, will boost the tech ecosystem in the country.
It was stated in an another report published that around 15,000 scholarships will be provided to Pakistani citizens after starting operations in Pakistan.
I love opportunities, and I'm sure by that time I'll will be graduated, and would be able to avail the opportunity. Cool ... 😎
It was reported that a delegation of Google will visit Pakistan in December 2022 to start their operations.
It is also hoped that the government of Pakistan will extend the scope of Google services in Pakistan.
In a bid to Unlock Pakistan’s Digital Potential, Google has launched several initiatives in Pakistan, including Career Certificate, which was recently launched. According to Google and Kantar’s Unlocking Digital in Rural Pakistan research:
YouTube is the most popular online video platform in the country (Pakistan) as more than 60 percent (62%) of online Pakistanis of 18 - 24 age have reported watching YouTube once or more a month.
Closing Thoughts
It is certain rhat due to the political instability most of the international companies were reluctant to open their offshore or liaison office in Pakistan. However, now it is not to far the companies will have offices in Pakistan. The first step has been taken by Google, another step by TikTok and soon another by Facebook. In near future every big company will have an office in Pakistan (In Sha Allah).
Pakistan has, no doubt, lots of talent and intelligence. The only thing we don't have is lack of resources. With the right and available resources Pakistani can do anything and everything.
The Google liaison office will be beneficial to Pakistan as they ensured thousands of scholarships at earliest (the sooner they start operation).
