The end justifies the means?

Howdy folks 🤠 how are you today and how was your weekend? Something crazy happened to me and it was a first-time thing; I woke up from sleep around 12pm! I stayed up all night downloading some resources I need for graphics design (brushes, mockups, templates), and then I played mobile games until 6am.

I couldn't have stayed awake that long on my own, something else was fueling my body to remain awake and it was the energy drink I had drank earlier that night. The name of the drink is fearless and I have talked about it a lot in some of my old articles, it works better than coffee for me and Princess Busayo can testify to its efficacy.

After breakfast (I am not sure I will call it breakfast anymore since I took it by 1pm), I opened my favorite online forum and a weird news title got my attention; Suspected Yahoo Boy Dies After Money Rituals. Yahoo boy is the term used to refer to fraudsters in my country, and the latest trend amongst them is that they now combine rituals with their fraudulent lifestyle.

While going through the post, I found out that the name of the boy that died is Albert and he is just 20 years old. According to the story, young Albert is into internet fraud just like his friends but he hasn't been successful, so he sought help from one of his friends called David on how he can hit it big in internet scams.

David is just 18 years and is already living large on his proceeds from internet fraud. He told Albert that the reason behind his poor success rate is a spiritual problem and he will link Albert with his spiritualist. David explained that the reason why he is very successful in internet scams is because of this spiritualist and he encouraged Albert to meet with him.

The spiritualist and Albert started chatting on Whatsapp and he promised to make Albert very rich just like he has done for David. The spiritualist told him he will have to pay some amount of money (around $360 or NGN400k) but David said he doesn't have that much, and that he has only $10 (NGN5k). The spiritualist agreed and told him that he will do a ritual for him that was worth the $10, but he won't receive a huge amount of money in return.

The $360 package comes with a guarantee that if Albert doesn't receive NGN 5 million ($9000) from a "ghost" within a week, then he will return his money to him. Albert finally met with the spiritualist and he was given a concoction to eat and was also told to take his bath at midnight with a spiritual soap for some days and after that, a ghost will give him $9000 every day.

Albert started the ritual process and was always returning home at odd hours of the night. His father was getting worried about his weird night movements and reported him to the local vigilante group in the community. Things went downside when Albert suddenly returned home one day panting and very weak, that was when he confessed the whole thing to his father and even showed him the chat with the spiritualist. He died shortly after that.

It's shocking how a young boy of that age was willing to damn all the consequences of the money ritual just because he has been assured of getting money from a ghost! How did he end up believing such bullsh*it? This recent crase for fast money has made a lot of youths bloodthirsty, and many have lost their lives on the quest for making a huge amount of money through illegal means.

These days, if you go into the midst of a crowd of young boys and throw a stone up, it's certain to land on a fraudster (or even two!), Yes, it is that bad. The worst thing is that a lot of them who aren't having much luck in internet scams just like Albert will start looking into the realm of money rituals, and most of the time it involves killing someone else.

This Albert's case is peculiar because he was the one that died instead of an innocent victim. The usual mode of operation for these fraudsters is to murder an innocent victim and use them for money ritual purposes, in the hopes that they will start becoming more successful in their crime.

They are not even worried about the toll such actions will have on their consciousness (do they even have one?). As long as they become rich after the deed has been done, then they are fine with it. They have their eyes fixed on the end and they are prepared to damn the consequences, even if it means killing everyone that gets in their way, including their mother!

Sometimes I just wonder if things will ever get better but right now I have given up home about that, things are definitely going to get worse. Every day, more and more youths are going down the path of internet fraud and it's fuelled by greed and envy. After seeing their age mates on social media driving cars that are more expensive than their father's house, some of those young men will also crave a life like that and they go into fraud.

Someone once tweeted that if youths are willing to channel the same energy they use in internet fraud into cryptocurrency and digital techs, they will be rich than their colleagues but they won't do that because they have been made to believe that internet fraud is an easier and faster way to becoming a millionaire.

Special shout out to @FarmGirlher sponsorship renewal, thank you so much Ate 🤗
