Another mistake is around the corner

Hello ladies and gentlemen of readcash, how are you today? There has been power failure over here for more than 24 hours and we don't seem to know what the problem is, even the university doesn't have light and that's very unusual.

Luckily for me, my powerbank saved my phone from going off 😁 and I gave it to a friend earlier to help me charge it somewhere that has a generator, so at least I am covered for today and will worry about charging tomorrow.

I saw that tweet earlier today on Twitter and I know most of us in Nigeria will know what it is all about; that is the year the current president was elected, and the beginning of our downfall. It's surprising how things have gotten so bad since then and we are just suffering and smiling right now.

That same mistake could have been avoided in 2019, but the same person was voted in again! 😀 I couldn't believe it when he won again despite what the whole country was passing through at that point but I actually saw it coming, we somehow end up electing the wrong person.

Right now, inflation is at its highest ever and a lot of other things have increased as well (and I am not even talking about good things). Earlier today, I was with a friend when she was buying something from a store and she asked for a can of peak milk, and she was told that it's NGN320. I was surprised and I told her that the last time I bought that milk, it was NGN250.

Later in the evening, I went out to buy things I need for tomatoes stew, and I bought 4 eggs for the price of NGN320. I told my girlfriend that I used to buy those eggs three for NGN100 back in 2020, but now only one is NGN80 and I am pretty sure it will soon get to NGN100.

Should we even talk about the price of bread? I can't think of a single thing that has remained the same since 2019, everything has increased in price but sadly, the salaries of most civil servants haven't increased. The worst thing is the price of the dollar to our currency (naira), which keeps increasing every day.

Just imagine someone that was earning NGN50,000 (approximately $140) monthly in 2019 back when a dollar was NGN360 and the person's salary remains the same till now and one dollar is currently NGN415 (according to the federal government 😆), the same NGN50k is now $120, which means the person's salary actually reduced.

Meanwhile, the prices of items in the market are responding to the price of dollar and at the end of the day, we have a lot of families who aren't able to afford food items because of a mistake we made back in 2015 and repeated in 2019. It's baffling that the current president of this country is someone that didn't go to school, even the primary school he went to is still being debated till today.

Back in 2020, there was a nationwide protest by the youths in the country to protest against the brutality of the police and that was the first time I saw youths of my country come together for one great cause, and it was successful (for the most part). There were talks back then that it was time for youths to take control of the country and become the president during the next presidential election which is next year.

A youth political party was even created and a lot of meetings were held back then, but right now I am not even hearing anything about youths going for the presidency anymore and we have a couple of old men popping up everywhere with their election posters and campaign and I can see 2015 happening all over again.

Right now I can't even do much than just observe and lookout for a good enough candidate who I will vote for, at least amongst all the candidates that are coming out, there's certainly going to be a lesser evil. But how are we going to know who is a lesser evil? Most people back in 2015 thought they were picking the lesser evil, but they all turned out wrong. I just hope we don't end up making the same mistake all over again.

Big thanks to @BCH_LOVER for her sponsorship renewal. I am very happy about it and I am truly grateful to you ma'am 🤗

Thanks for reading 💖💖💖

Here in our country the election will be this May. I hope the people have learned from the past.

Same here. Prices are soaring even more since the increase in oil price.

Prices have been soaring high in my country even before oil price went up, the recent hike in oil price has even made it worse

What is more scary is that the "anointed" candidate who is tipped to be the successor come 2023 could be more disastrous. BAT would just finish the country kpatakpata. The high spate of kidnapping, banditry and ritualism is as a result of the monumental poverty instituted by the present administration.. If BAT in addition to being fantastically corrupt, is also not healthy both in body and in mind ever becomes president, I cant even imagine what the country would turn into. I swear I'm afraid 🤦

It looks like I am not the only one seeing the incoming disaster, something tells me we are living our best life right now, we go see pepper of BAT comes into power

I thought he would fail woefully during the 2019 election with the way people hated the previous four years of his tenure, but shockingly he still has followers. I was at Imo state then and you know, those people want PDP but when buhari started his Underwork, fear caught me. Money can buy People ehn.!

Same thing with this "incoming" baba. People are saying they ain't voting for him but let h start his Underwork first, you go see your hostel mate campaigning for him🤣🤣

He has started his underwork already. I saw a picture online recently where he shared bag of rice with his face on it in one village in Kaduna, I can already see him winning the election 😩

That's it. He'll win and nothing can be done about it. Fear politics!

That's what politics is. Hearing those words they spoke during their candidacy made us think that they are suited to be the leader of the country but when they are elected, that's the only time we know their true colors. It's saddening especially that we voted them because we think that they are the ones who can make in a change in a country but it turns out to be the opposite. That's the sad reality nowadays. Someone runs for a certain position in the country not because they want to serve the people but to have money and power...You're welcome Kushy, you deserve it

The bad thing to all these is that it's very difficult to seperate politicians who are willing to serve from those that are just going there for the power and money, it's very rare to see a honest politician

That's true. It's very hard to find a politician who has pure intentions for his/her country

That's a problem. We felt loved to politicians who spoke beautiful and flowery words. And turns out to be a bad man. Poor us!

They know their way around words and most people end up believing them 🤦

I doubt if we won't make the same mistake again because those old cheats are always steps ahead of us.

Do you think it is their votes that put them there? Nigeria is going towards it end, let's just hope it doesn't drag everyone along.

The best everyone can do right now is to pack up your family and run, the country is a sinking ship

We Nigerians are funny people. The economy has practically regressed since 1960, and what we do is recycle the same people who have been leading and expect progress. How do we expect those that have been in power and not done anything to make things better to do something when given another position in power? Oh well, what do I know. COVID really affected the world at large, and our country too wasn't spared. The annoying part is that he current inflation we're experiencing I feel was fueled by the government's attempt to print a lot of money last year. Also, light issue seem to be in the news last week that it was a Nationwide problem thatvwoilr be sorted out. I don't know how far they've come since.

That's another angle to look at it, we keep reelecting the same old people and expecting different result, is that not madness? The light issue is the worst, we have been battling with it for over 60 years 🤦
