What one man can invent, another can discover. – Sherlock Holmes

It was a hot afternoon when Irene and Aidan took a break after a stressful yet boring day. They were just sitting in their office, each with a stack of papers on their tables. Aidan sighed for the umpteenth time. The expressions in each of their faces revealed how bored they were with all of the paperwork. They just wanted to have a good time. They hadn't received a murder case in a month, the last one was about a months ago. Their agency had received no new clients until now. The phone abruptly rang as Aidan was about to bite into his donut, and the two of them gazed at each other with a grin smile on their faces full with excitement.

"AAAAAAACCCKKK!!" a loud scream that diverted the students' attention. The scream surely came from a girl's voice and it came from the back of the building, where the laboratory was located. Everyone headed to the laboratory and they were not expecting what they saw. Teacher Rae, who was a science teacher, went to the laboratory immediately and like the students' reactions. Teacher Rae almost threw up when she saw one of her students lying on the floor bathing in his own blood. She didn't know what to do and the only thing that popped up in her head was the question, "Who did this?". Jessie, also one of her students, approached her with teary eyes. She was the one who first saw the body. Then, a few minutes later, the SOCO arrived, along with Police Inspector Moran, Irene and Aidan. Students were told to get back to their respective classrooms and school was canceled for the next following day.

"What are your thoughts about this?" Chief Inspector Moran asked Aidan about the crime scene. "I haven't encountered any school murder cases for like a year already." Aidan just smiled at him and walked straight into the laboratory. When Aidan entered the laboratory, he went directly to the victim's body along with Irene. The police handed them two pieces of gloves. "The victim was identified as Agustus Dela Cruz, 20 years old and the president of the Science Club," Chief Inspector Moran stated.

They discovered a shattered piece of baker in the victim's hand. It appears that the baker was used to cut the victim's throat. "Was this a possible suicide?" questioned the police inspector. "NO, it isn't," Aidan said confidently as he picked up the small piece of paper he noticed next to the victim's body. "The broken piece of the baker was the suspect's attempt to make the scene appear to be a suicide, but he was not as clever as to commit the murder cleanly. The victim did not die instantly after the suspect cut his throat. Based on his position, the victim was still able to crawl for a few seconds, and blood was everywhere."

"I already know who the culprit was," Aidan revealed confidently. "Really? We haven't even gotten a look at some of the possible suspects yet "Inspector Moran exclaimed.

The room is not monitored by CCTV cameras and is located at the back of the building. That is why the culprit is so self-assured in committing such a heinous crime. "We have already drawn the attention of the following individuals who were with the victim prior to the incident. They're already on their way." The two students appeared at the door as the police inspector said those words. The first one was wearing eye glasses, while the second appeared to be a cool guy. Jessie was also interrogated because she was the first to arrive at the crime scene. All three of them, as expected, had an alibis. "You" Aidan said to the cool guy. "Around 2:30 p.m., some students noticed you talking to Agustus." Jim Moriarty, a 22-year-old science club member, was identified as the cool guy. Jim's alibi was that Agustus had talked to him about their science experiment for the upcoming science fair. After that, he returned to their classroom. Then their teacher confirmed that Jim was with them at 2:40 PM.

Sebastine Murillo, the victim's best friend, was the next student. He was also the Science Club's Vice President. His alibi was that he was at the CR at the time of the incident. When he appeared from the restroom, he was dumbfounded as to why there were only a few students in the hallway when supposedly, it was mostly crowded with students at that hour.

And the final one was Jessie. She was the one who discovered the crime scene first. She stated that they were both at the laboratory finishing up their experiments for the science fair. Agustus instructed her to borrow some of the tools from the third year, which where located on the third floor of the other building. She was gone for 40 minutes, and when she came back, she found Agustus's lifeless body.

"Very well," Aidan said, his gaze fixed on the three possible suspects.

"Despite the fact that your alibis appear convincing, you are not clever enough to commit such a crime. You didn't even check to see if you really killed the victim." Aiden then handed the suspect the piece of paper he found beside the victim's body. The suspect was intrigued by what was written on the paper, but later freaked out and repeatedly exclaimed, "It wasn't me!" The culprit was immediately arrested by police.

What was written on a piece of paper was just a series of numbers written by the use of blood.

34, 56, 16, 22, 10

Now the question is, Who was the culprit?

I'll give a $1 reward to the first person who can correctly identify the culprit and provide an explanation. LOL

Sebastine, he has poor alibi and no one can support his alibi. The other clue that game him away was the eye glass of Sebastine and number in the piece of paper. If the numbers where written at the point of death of the victim, it would be difficult to read. The fact that Sebastine interpreted those numbers were his name (probably he was not also able to read it properly because he has poor eyesight) is a confirmation that he is the killer. The investigators do not actually have a clue what those numbers meant. They were just baiting the killer.

Sebastine also has a motive, probably he wants to be president or there is internal issue in the club and a perfect alibi, the best friend of the victim but this excuse will not stand because he said that it was not him, even though the numbers do not mean anything.

Your statement says "The investigators do not actually have a clue what those numbers meant. They were just baiting the killer". If they do not understand elements from the periodic table them they do not deserve to be called investigators. Investigators consists of people from different fields including forensic scientists. Have you seen Sherlock Holmes?

There's no logic to this explanation based on evidence. You don't arrest a suspect based on a guess. Deductive evidence is required.

Still I got the answer correctly, call it luck then if you do not agree with my reasoning.

Nice deductions, I was impressed! But actually, those numbers that was written in a piece of paper was an atomic number. If you spell out each elements of those numbers, it'll reveal the culprit's name.

Though you still got it right!

Never thought of using periodic table because I was very poor in chem. But I was very good in logic and reading Sherlock Holmes!

34, 56, 16, 22, 10. Since they were working on a science project, thise numbers represent the elements in the periodic table. 34- Selenium

56- Barium

16- Sulfur

22- Titanium

10- Neon . The killer is definitely Sebastine. Give me my $1 🤪

Actually, you got it right, but someone already guess who the culprit is. You could've get the $1 if you were earlier lol

The instruction was "I'll give a $1 reward to the first person who can correctly identify the culprit and provide an explanation".

The explanation from your winner doesn't match the given evidence. It was simply a lucky guess without any logical explanation to it. 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️

The culprit is Jessie. They were already rounding up the experiment, what tools would they need again? And she had to use 40 whole minutes? Doesn't add up, that is a weak alibi. Jessie did it, I just can't connect it with those numbers.
