First of all I want to say thank you to all kinds of farmers out there around the world. A salute to all of you our living heroes that is contiously sacrificing their blood and sweat in order to grow and harvest a grain of rice. Aren't you wondering how rice was made? Are you grateful to their efforts and sacrifices upto this day. There are no words that can explain how lucky I am to have a parent who's a farmer. My father and lolo are farmers and I'm proud of them.
Farmers, one word and composed of seven letters but I can think of so many good deeds they did for the society and for their family. They put so much effort in their crops in order for them to harvest many. They wake up early in the morning just to get in the fields and prepare the land for planting. Waking up early is included on their daily routine and staying up all day under the burning sun in take caring their crops. But despite all of these things that they do, some people out there still have the guts to disrespect and devalue them. Some of them are their own family and that's the saddest part of it.

There are so many good memories being in the farm planting some seedlings just like rice. My mind has been opened to rice farming at early age and experienced the same tiredness felt by farmers when they do their things. I also enjoyed riding at the back of the most industrious friend of a farmer. Her/his skin color is black, it's body is very large suited for difficult jobs and I'm amazed by it's endurance of heat coming from the sun just like his/her partner. This busy buddy can be your greatest partner in farming if you take care of him/her properly.

Do you still remember this big guy? Do you still remember who is our national animal here in the Philippines? Tell me you still remember this buddy or else it will make him/her sad. This buddy made my childhood awesome and memorable. I still remember the times when I got to be with this guy in grasslands shepherding him. There are times that I even slept under a Ipil-Ipil tree waiting for him to finish eating those green healthy grass.
I got the chance to be with him in the river waiting for him to finish bathing and getting cooled down. I had fun riding a paragos/pasagad/patuki(in ilocano) together with my cousins when we were still kids. This one is being pulled by this buddy when the harvest season comes loaded with sacks of rice or the one used in fiestas in our barrio, transformed into a colorful ride just like the jeepneys here in our country.
Ofcourse I haven't missed the chance to drive it haha and guess what the big guy was not comfortable with me holding his rope as the handle so he went crazy haha running freely in the fields while us riding in it's pasagad.
This big guy here is called Carabao or Nwang in Ilokano and Kalabaw in tagalog. In your place what do you call it, drop it in the comment section.

This big guy and his partner were together in life no matter what the season . Rain or shine they are working hard in the fields in order to grow golden grain. It's a golden grain but has no worth at all compared to gold. You can't eat gold anyway. It seems these golden grains will lost it's value as the world improves into a industrial one.
I'm just thinking that what if every single rice fields out there will be erected with tall buildings and other infrastructures, will humans can survive? Here in our town I saw many rice fields being planted with huge buildings, comercial ones and subdivisions. In our barangay a subdivision is ongoing on it's construction, if I'm not mistaken the rice field alloted to it was close to 2 hectares. How many sacks of rice would be harvested in that vast space, it's about 200 sacks of rice. With this kind of situation here in our country there will be time that we will experience shortage of rice and we buy from other countries which I see it as no good.
Farmers had given all of their blood and time in growing rice for the country and ofcourse for their needs. I'm just hoping that one day , the voice of farmers will be heard by many and especially those who are in power because I can see that they are less important in their eyes but they are forgetting that they are the one feeding the country with their crops. Some people out there doesn't even care about these heroes who are not yet recognized by many.
Day by day rice prize are slowly losing it's value, ranging from 12 to 18 pesos per kilo when fresh but when they sell it at the market, it's already 25 to 40 pesos per kilo. A huge profit right. Farmers are being left behind and it's just a sad thing. Are you sad for their situation? Can you stand with them in fighting for their worth in the society. Those are the questions I wanted to know especially that there are so many Filipino youths here. I hope you don't mind sharing your opinions regarding our farmers.
That ends my article for today and thank you for reading this far. I hope that with this kind of article you will remember them and all their sacrifices. See you in my next article. My whole body is hurting because we worked at the field yesterday that's why I'm not that active here. Especially my legs and balakang. Is this the sign of aging lol.haha.
