Regulating Emotions: When I Feel ... I Will ...
It's a no-brainer for us people to struggle to handle our emotions. It's rare for a person to be always at their well-managed temperament.
Do you find yourself struggling to manage your emotions in a certain situation? That's when our characters are put into tests. The reason why we encounter such circumstances is that they're meant for us to develop a character in us that will mold us all throughout.
In relation to that, I will share with you a post I saw on Facebook the other day. It's about managing our emotions.
When I feel Angry, I will ...
Pause until I am able to think clearly so I can respond rationally instead of reacting.
This is something I have always been struggling with. I easily get irritated when things do not go my way. This should be a constant reminder that we have the power to choose our responses.
Get back to our senses, breathe and think deeply about what's best to resolve the issue.
When I feel Overwhelmed, I will ...
Write down what I need to get done and focus on one task at a time based on importance.
Do you also struggle getting things done especially if you have so much on your plate already? I believe we all are. What we need to do is to be organized with our thoughts by writing them down. That way, it'll keep us on track and sort out which needs to be done first.
List down the tasks needed to be done and prioritize the ones which need attention and time the most.
When I feel Insecure, I will ...
Work on appreciating and accepting myself, flaws and all. I am more than I give myself credit for.
I am such a negative person before. I boxed myself from the insecurities of how I compare myself to other people. It was a very toxic trait. It dragged me down when I'm supposed to be a friend of myself.
Before, I never acknowledged nor appreciated myself. I always see what's lacking in me. But now, I have learned to appreciate myself and it made me happy. Self-love, self-acceptance. Everyone has flaws. You are not alone.
When I feel Rejected, I will ...
Acknowledge that this feeling sucks but I won't let it consume me. Rejection is redirection.
This one too. It has been a challenge for me whenever I feel rejected. Rejection is something so hard to move on from. Before, I let all rejections consume me and so I tend to get depressed and self-pity afterwards.
When that tragedy happened to me, it opens me doors of maturity and positivity that my life doesn't end with rejections and failures. Yes, it feels devastating but let's not let them consume us. Tomorrow is a different day to fight. It's another opportunity to start fresh and build strategies in life.
When I feel Discouraged, I will ...
Be kind to myself and remind myself of the reason why I am trying. I will use that as my strength.
This happens next when I feel rejected. I feel discouraged. I feel blank about what's next.
This is an important reminder to be kind to ourselves and acknowledge that we are trying our best to succeed. Let's find our way back to our roots. That's the reason why we are trying.
When I feel Anxious, I will ...
Focus on the present moment and take deep breaths to regulate my nervous system.
Anxiety happens all the time when we think too much ahead of the future. Are you that type of person too? Afraid of what's gonna happen soon?
That's overthinking. The thing is, those scenarios you created in your mind do not even exist yet. So focus on the present moment and we'll cross the bridge when we get there.
I do breathing techniques and I have shared them already here. I do the 4-7-8 breathing technique. I inhale for 4 seconds, hold it for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. Trust me, it works!
Do you find this article helpful? Do you condition your mind by these statements too? I hope you do!
Thanks for reading.
Keep safe everyone!
We need to know how we handle our emotions before we react to everything. Everything that you mentioned ate really helpful to everyone who feels those kind of feelings and emotions.
