Good morning everyone, Let me present to you my topic for the day.

Each year, lung cancer kills one million people worldwide. Its a leading cause of cancer deaths in the Philippines. If you smoke, you must stop. If you dont smoke, dont start. Smoking is responsible for 85 to 90 percent of lung cancers. But no matter what your age, quitting dramatically reduces your risk. Cigarettes and cigar smoke contains more than 40 carcinogens. If you smoke or live with someone who does, youre inhaling air that contains formaldehyde and ammonia, among other carcinogens.

Men who smoke are 22 times more likely to develop lung cancer than men who don't smoke. Women who smoke are 12 times more likely to develop lung cancer than women who dont smoke.

Few signs and Symptoms:

Lung cancer occurs mainly in people age 45 or older. It may cause wheezing, hoarseness, chest pain, weight loss or swelling in your neck and feet. Coughing up blood may also be a sign. Screening methods, such as chest X-rays may detect lung cancer before symptoms appear. But because the diseases is so deadly, no method has proven effective for reducing death rates.

Types and Stages:

Lung cancer is a mass of abnormal cells that grow out of control in your lungs. There have two main types of lung cancer:

  1. Nonsmall cell cinoma- Doctors group several types of lung cancer together and call them nonsmall cell lung cancer. These types are:

  • Squamos cell carcinoma

  • Adenocarcinoma

  • Large cell carcinoma

  1. Small cell carcinoma- Sometimes called "oat cell" carcinoma for its tumor cells shape, small cell carcinoma accounts for about 20 percent of lung cancer. It usually spreads rapidly.

The Big Picture

One hundred years after the discovery of Xray, some 260 million imaging procedures are performed annually. Evolution in diagnostic imaging has led to these advantages:

  1. Earlier diagnosis. Diseases are often detected while still at curable stages.

  2. Painless evaluation. The examination generally cause little or no pain or discomfort.

  3. Reassurance. The images can exclude the pressence of disease.

  4. Less need for surgery. Imaging allows accurate amd precisely placements of biopsy needles for evaluating tumors. It also guides placement of catheters for widening narrowed arteries and draining infections with surgery.

  5. A visual guide. When surgery is needed, the images "map" where the disorder is located and how best to reach it.

Always in mind, PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
