We Only Have One Earth!

Let me start this post with a music video from Lil Dicky. And I have a question afterward.

Earth by Lil Dicky (clean version)

What is the message of the video?

Hello again, readers. This John once again. This is my response to the Writing Prompt No 8 by @JonicaBradley. The subject of this prompt is 'Nature'.

The truth is, I have already started a draft for another post that is quite related to this prompt.  But after reading the post, I thought I would make another one. And probably I would continue with the other article as a sequel for this post.

The Beauty of Nature

Who hasn't enjoyed the warmth of the sun on a beach with crystal-clear water? Or listen to the roaring waves of the ocean?

Or hasn't enjoyed the breath of fresh air while walking through a hiking trail in the middle of the forest? I suppose a certain CaveWoman ( @MarSou )just love to do that.

Have you experienced taking a dip in a pool with water coming from a natural hot spring? I have. It's quite relaxing.
And have you ever drank water from a natural spring? I don't mean the processed water that comes in plastic bottles and they call it 'natural'. I mean spring water coming from the very source. It is very refreshing.

When was the last time you picked a ripe fruit from its tree? It could never get any fresher than that.

That is the beauty of nature.

Sad Reality.

When you wake up in the morning what do you hear? Do you hear the cheerful songs of the birds? Or the angry rumblings of the engines of the vehicles on the road?

When was the last time that you walked in the middle of the day, under the cool shades of trees? No matter how hot the sun is, you could enjoy your walk.

Look outside your window. Do you see beautiful green scenery or a concrete jungle?

A concrete jungle. Image source: Unsplash

When was the last time you enjoyed the beauty of nature?

What Are We Doing?

We only have one Earth. It is our home but what are we doing?
We always clean our homes. We always take out our garbage. But where is all those garbage going?
Watch this video and see where they go.

Yes, even the tiny piece of plastic candy wrapper can end up in that great pacific garbage patch.

In The Name Of Progress.

To produce more in less time, we build machines and replaced human workers.
Then we build machines to build more machines. Machines that consume fossil fuel to produce... Thus, polluting the air and water...

All in the name of progress.
The total forest area around the Globe is getting smaller and smaller. Farmlands are being converted into residential or commercial lots...

All in the name of "progress."

Earth is our home. We are the children and nature is our mother. Nature has provided us with everything that we need.

But we are not contented. We wanted more. Perhaps that is in our nature. Then we do things we are not supposed to do to get what we want.

Nature's Wrath

Time and again, we abuse the Earth. We take more than what we need. We destroy instead of nurturing the Earth. And call it 'development' without regard to the consequences of our actions.
But what does a mother do when the children misbehave? She disciplines then. She shows the consequences of our actions. And nature is our mother.
And we have been bad kids. And mother has spanked us on our behind many times over already.
How?
Aside from the worldwide crisis brought by the covid19 pandemic, other natural disasters happened across the planet. Here are some of the biggest natural disasters that happened last year.

That's how Mother Nature tried to correct us. She's trying to teach us. But have we learned anything? Are we even listening?

If we haven't learned anything yet, Mother Nature is surely going to give us another round of spanking in the future.

We have one Earth. This is our home. We should take care of it.

I just really hope that people will realize that the destruction of our environment is our destruction as well. I have tried dipping into the hot spring when I was a kid. But drinking water from the source, not yet. I believe that we can still save Mother Earth if we all can act as one. 😊

The last time I heard the birds chirping just before sunset today. It's a different scenario when you are leaving in an island province where people are mostly environmentalist. We don't have high buildings because it is not allowed we can only build up to sixth floor, we don't have factories to pollute the air because it isn't allowed here. There are still some places in this earth where people are more concerned with nature and environment.

Ahh.. Yes, it's bliss to live outside a highly urbanized city. We are the same. I don't have to get out of the house to hear the birds sing. If you did not mention that your city/municipality has a 6-floor limit, I would have thought we live in the same city. But our limit here is only four. Though there is a building here that stands six-story high. But I don't think it being used anymore

We experienced nature's wrath countless times but it seems that there are still hard headed humans who really loves to ruin mother nature..and they are confident that they will no be affected by the consequences coz they are rich ..ordinary people are the one who's suffering from their irresponsibilities and selfishness...

Sad, but that is the truth. In fact some of them are even taking advantage of the situation to feed their greed.

Its sad to see the negative effects of what humans had done to nature..it is important to do our part in saving our nature

Fortunately, I can still here the birds chirping outside my bedroom window. And its a bliss.

Earth is what we only have in common for the most of us, I really hope we can take extra care for it.
