June 9

It's already the rainy days in the Philippines, yet I am Feeling the Best Of Summer In the Rainy Season.

The Philippines only has two seasons, the wet and the dry seasons, or the rainy season and summer. This year, the rainy season has started last May 18. Now it's the 9th of June and it still feels the best of summer on certains days. Like today. The temperature is at 30 degrees Centigrade but probably because of the 72% humidity it feels like 36 degrees!

A warm greetings to you once again, my dear readcash family. Or should I say HOT greetings? Because it certainly is a hot afternoon in this part of the world. The Irony is, I'm taking a hot mug of coffee while composing this. Even my mug doesn't look comfortable in this heat.

See what I mean?

I hope you are have a much cooler weather in your end.

The Climate Has Indeed Changed

If there are people who still does not believe in climate change and global warming... I don't know what will change their mind. Maybe if they stay for a day or two outside the comfort of their airconditioned buildings and cars, they will sure feel it.

Last summer... to be precise... last April, which was the middle of summer here in the Philippines, our country was struck by at least two typhoons.Fortunately, the second storm dissolved even before it can make a land fall. However, the first typhoon brought so much rain that it flooded various parts of the country. Which damaged millions worth of crops and properties.

As far as I can recall, it was the first time that, not just one, but two, typhoons entered the Philippine Area of Resonsibility consecutively.

Not only that, it rained almost every day during the summer months.

I took a break from writing to take care of some business during this part.

Summer Heat In Rainy Days.

(9:00 PM)

Rainy days was officially declared by the Philippine Atmostpheric, Geophysical and Atmospheric Services or PAGASA (the country's weather bureau) in May. As I recall, June was supposed to be a rainy month. Low Pressurea Area and weak storms would hit the country frequently during these months. July and August were thunderstorm months.

Earlier I went out. The sun was glaring and no site of rain. It really felt the best of summer...

The glaring Sun on a hot afternoon!

Even as I type this article, I can still feel the heat and it's already nine in the evening.

Will It Get Worse?

For several years, I always thought that each summer is getting hotter and hotter! I remember that the heat index in the Philippines hit about 40 degrees a few years ago. Will it get worse in the coming years? I really pray that it won't.

Lesson From The Pandemic

During the height of the pandemic, have you noticed that the air was cooler and smelt fresher? Why do you think it was so?

Due to the lessened human activities, few vehicles were used for over the years. Factories were temporarily closed. Airplanes were grounded. As a result, the pollution emited into the air was cut down drastically.

The lesson? With the reduced human activities, mother Earth had a much needed breather.

But was that enough?

In Closing

Summer break is great. It's fun to go places during summer. But it's now supposed to be the rainy season. It's supposed to be a wet (and cold) season not hot and dry! Now that the threat of the pandemic has been reduced, human activities have returned almost to normal. Thus, pollution has increased again.

As I close this post, I will let you ponder on this question

What can you do to help the Earth breath?

We only have one Earth. Let her breath.

Thanks for Reading.

It's really scary to think how climate change will affect the future generation. The mere fact that we are now experiencing it already, how much more in the future.

Not just 40 degrees but it exceeded to 50 degrees in some parts of the Phil last year. I really that the awareness about climate change would spread and people will start to take action about it.

Change is the only constant, which includes climate change. We can't deny that the climate is changing, and we're seeing more typhoons and other natural disasters as a result.
