How do you feel if every single conversation you had over lunch with a friend is spreading all over the street?. You will feel bad and say such a friend shouldn't be trusted and call him or her a Gossip. Call him one with no respect for privacy but each day we all find ourselves doing this same thing.

Recently I saw a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between two friends trending. Though it looked "scripted". Maybe the Original post was made to pass the information or the receiver was truly living up to his/her reputation. I was able to see the message the person was trying to pass. I recreated the conversation (the trending screenshot) just for the sake of this article.

Screenshot of an illustration of the picture. This is scripted using the format of the said trending post.

It is now something common for people to share screenshots of their chats on their statuses and even to groups. Since it isn't spoken words, we see it as no offence. Fear of having one's secret all over the internet is now in people's minds.

I totally agree that it is meant for fun sometimes, just to make people laugh. Take, for example, a funny exchange of words between two friends can be seen online. It's quite understandable. But having intimate or confidential conversations pasted all over the internet can have an adverse effect on the victim. If you're the type that does this then you're no better than the snitch, gossip or whatsoever name you give a person who can't keep secrets.

It's the time of the year when every department and faculties are expected to elect a new set of Executives to govern and lead them for the next year. It's Usual to see so many faculty positions being contested by more than one candidate. However, it is rare to see departmental positions being contested by more than one person. Most times the Executives are Elected unopposed. But this year's seems to be different. Almost all positions are having more than one candidate.

This lead to Dichotomy in various sections. Two good friends turned enemies all because of this election and sharing of chats (screenshots). I'm not exempted from people with this bad habit, but with recent happenings, I realise how bad it is. The damage it could cause. And I realised how dangerous it is chatting with someone through texts or voice notes on any social media site is.

One of the friends shared their chat with another friend and the screenshot kept spreading until it got to where it ought not to. The affected friend was ridiculed and people didn't hesitate in passing judgement. No one bothered to ask what proceeded the statement shown in the chat spreading. Which conversation were they having, prior to the Statement which is making waves? No one cared. The friendship that has been on for over four years is presently on the verge of collapse as I am typing this. It has gotten to the stage that they now shade each other in groups and even share screenshots of previous chats they had.

With the way things are going, the relationship is damaged beyond repair. Because each was trying to implicate the other by sharing chats of when the other was saying something bad about another person. Even voice notes were shared.

This menace of sharing screenshots of chat with others has eaten deep into our skin that the best solution I could come up with while typing this is - " Whatsoever you know when others sees you can't defend or what you don't want another person to see, never type it to another. Be it your friend or even family". Until we all come back to our senses and respect each other's privacy by keeping all messages to ourselves and not posting screenshots of chats online, I will advise you to follow what I concluded with after much deliberation.

Thanks for reading!🤗🤗🤗

We will be held accountable on the things that we post online. We should make sure not to step onto other's rights.

Ah yes, such is the life we have today. Too many people are always posting supposedly private stuff online. Imagine if I post all the chismis I hear from my window on YouTube or Facebook. Hahaha. My gosh. That's why we should still practice good manners even when we are online.

At least if we see our friends or family do such we'll know what kind of personality they have.

I call it the social media maladies which we have come to embrace gradually. It is not just about discussions, we have made social media the television of our daily activity. Anybody can easily guess what we will be doing in the next few hours just by looking at our status... It's crazy.

Yeah, I wish I could say this was a new thing but it isn't. People fall victims to others posting their private chats. Well, we indeed are responsible for what we post though, I just wish people can be respectful of one another's privacy

That's why we need to carefully choose what to post or share to any social media. Maybe it's okay for you to post that but there are also some people involved and maybe they don't like it to be shared. Let's just be aware of the proper nettiquette.

This is one of the things I hate about technology. It makes it easy for people to manipulate things to make a conversation looks bad because it isbyaken out of context. That is why when I am screenshotting a conversation with my friend, I always told them about it. I usually take screenshots for memories since they tend to unsend things HAHA and I wanna keep track of their funny messages for when we get together to bond over our cringey past

Most times I ask myself if these second parties in this conversations are aware of their little chit-chat had gone around social media. I feel we should take due permission before posting one's conversation on social media.

That is sad.. and it is a big no no no to be spreading confidential conversations. That will make you think if the one who spread it is really your friend or not. cannot trust anymore

I can imagine the state the person is, it is really very sad to see ones chat with a friend spreading all over. It hurt and put a lasting regret in ones life. Thanks for sharing this,I hope we learn from this.

I truly disagree with this sharing screenshots of other people's convo.. Others might think bad about it and you are unaware of it. So you can't defend yourself from being criticized by others..

That is definitely wrong. It's wrong to be someone with loosed tongue. Your friends confided in you and you broadcasted it. If there's anything I don't want a second party to hear I do not bother to say it.

That's it. Don't say it at all in this social media age we are in.

I don't know but, I hate people who gossip information that talk privately, especially when it's confidential. He talks to you because he feels safe and trusted you but you'll gonna spill the tea

Whilst some of us endeavor to keep our conversations private and away from other prying eyes, some are quite 'vulgar' in showing theirs to the public. So yes, I agree with your final thoughts on the subject, to avoid sending private ra-rahs to others regardless they're family or not :)

I have seen many people who does not keep secrets. They tend to expose themselves to the internet revealing their most expensive conversation to the world.

I agree with you, as we have to know how.we chat with friends as they can not be trusted

Nowadays, it is so hard to identify the keeper friend. Therefore, if you don't want all the people to know about your secret, better leave it unsaid and keep it to yourself and Lord.

I have seen that conversation too on Facebook. We have to learn how to respect someone's privacy for it might ruin everything. A broken glass can't be fixed with a sorry. Think first to deter regrets.

The value for confidentiality has been breached in our society of today. It is no longer safe to chat matter of the heart to friends on social media and other platforms again.

Not safe at all. It's just one click away from the public eyes.

People do not value confidentiality again and they go about exposing themselves on social medias, in public. This ought not to be done.
