Humility
We can never take away the life-long argument between fans of various celebrities. There will always be diverse stands by different people. The Messi vs Ronaldo argument is as old as time itself, Beyonce vs Rihanna / Cardi B vs Nicki is another argument, Nadal vs Federer and many more. In my country Nigeria, one of the most popular arguments is the Wizkid vs Davido argument. Each fan base believes their fave is better than the other. Every win by their fave is seen as an opportunity to mock the other.
Yesterday those supporting Davido got another bragging right when their fave sang live on stage at the FIFA world cup draw. It’s a big deal to be one f those singing the anthem for a world cup so I can understand the excitement from the fans. It’s a big win for David, Afrobeat and Nigeria at large, especially with the recent happenings and current state of things in the country. While celebrating, jabs were thrown at the other fan base but we all know the other fan base might be quiet now, they are already looking for a comeback. The Grammy award is on Sunday and Wizkid was nominated for two awards. If he wins any of the two, his fans will have more bragging rights, since he got one last year. 30BG (Davido’s fan club name) believe the one he won last year, wasn’t solely his, because it was for a song that has blue Ivy and Beyonce. I’m sure you know I’m talking about - "Black skin girl”
I can go on and on about the debate and rivalry. If Wizkid wins the Grammy tomorrow will the debate end? No, it won’t. Just like the Messi vs Ronaldo Argument. The two were criticized for not winning any international trophy, but when Ronaldo did, the debate didn’t stop, instead, Messi’s fans look for something else to criticize Ronaldo. While Ronaldo’s fan base mocks Messi for not winning any international trophy. “When Messi finally did, did the argument stop?” No, it’s still on. So expect more arguments from FC (Wizkid fans) and 30BG (David’s fan)
However, the artist or celebrity in question can do something to remain relevant and loved. They can’t control the actions of their fans. Even if they write to them appealing for them to stop the debates and shading online, the fans will continue because it gives them joy. The artist can only do one thing- be humble. With humility, they can win the battle against trolls and haters. They will have people fighting for them without them asking for it simply because they choose to be humble.
I am a huge fan of humility! Humility is so underrated, it should be the root of everything we do. I am talking about being humble enough to listen to others and learning from them, being humble enough to look at yourself as you would look at someone else, and being honest and humble enough to realize that you do not know everything.
A lot of people are not where they ought to be because they refuse to be humble, be humble enough to ask for help when you need it, be humble enough to give credit to those who deserve it, be humble enough to accept that you’re only human- you’re not perfect, be humble enough to not let the hype get to you, but continue to strive negligently. I want to encourage everyone to see their ego and pride as the only barriers that exist between where they are and where they want to be. There is nothing wrong with having pride in yourself; however, you can’t let it get in the way of your growth and education.
Being humble shouldn't be an option, it should be one of the lessons parents teach their kids through their actions and words. Be a role model for the younger ones. You don’t have to be a celebrity before you are humble. It starts from the position you’re in today. Because you have a change in fortune, you’re richer than those you used to roll with shouldn’t make you look down on them, lower your shoulder pad. Humble yourself and see how things will work out in your favour.

Humility is an attribute whose importance cannot be overemphasized. At a stage in the Messi/Ronaldo argument, humility was used by some fans as the yardstick to decide who the better player was.
