Exercise your right to vote
The degree of corruption in our government offices is increasing every day. The politicians make promises when campaigning but keeping to their words is another thing which they find hard to do. They are so much addicted to power and worst still when an election comes the politicians are more interested in what they can get than what they can give. This is wrong and should not be allowed. Even when the politician knows that his cabinet members are corrupt, he does nothing to correct the problem because he does not want to lose his job. This is what happens in most countries and it's high time we try to change how we are governed.
Corruption is defined as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. It is such a big problem in today’s government offices and even though it is not getting many actions on it, the rate is increasing every day. Corruption is a common vice in our society and the problem is more severe when it comes to the part of the Government. Politicians are supposed to be the custodians of peace, but as time went on, people have realized that some of them don’t care about peace and unity.
The rate at which politicians have been enriching themselves with our money and proceeds from government contracts has led to a realization that they are not happy with what they earn and they want to get even more.
These people usually win by promising the gullible electorate all sorts of gifts with their so-called manifestos and only to find out that they were all told lies after they had gained power.
Our leaders are thieves because they do not care about us
The corrupt police officers, judges, Government workers and more are also menace battling us. Although there are good well-meaning men working for our government, yet the effect of bad eggs spoils the whole pot. Government officials take bribes from every individual seeking to do business with the government and in some cases, government officials even take bribes from fellow government officials.
The government should be made aware of this by the general but they don’t seem to be interested as they are just in it to look good and give their constituents something to talk about.
The National Assembly is one of the most corrupted offices in our country Nigeria (and so many other countries). We go and vote for officials who will make them rich and yet, these same people end up with poor and bare minimum.
Scandals and reports of how politicians loot money from the public purse are rife. Politicians promise to build roads, schools, hospitals and when their terms are up, you find that nothing was built. The only thing left for us to do is to hang our heads in shame and regrets.
The lawmakers are the ones breaking the rules. Godfather-ism is another issue we are facing. To be elected as Governor, councillor, LG chairman or president, you have to have the backing of some certain people and when these people help you in getting into office, you will have to dance to their tune throughout your stay in office. Some politicians have good intentions before going into the office but the pressure from the political party members, Godfathers and chairmen make them succumb.
I read an article talking about how the present chaos happening in Russia can be an advantage to the Africa Economy, especially countries with petroleum. It’s shameful that we can’t take advantage of this because we have no refinery. Instead of the situation helping us, we are encountering more problems. Fuel scarcity is now the anthem on the street. Instead, of taking action we prefer to call on God. Yes! prayers work but you need to take action. In the bible God gave the Israelites a King to rule them, this shows that having a ruler is okay. When Saul wasn’t doing well God didn’t rule them, he gave them another king -David. What I’m trying to say is if the government in power isn’t doing what we want, we can always vote them out. You being part of a certain religion shouldn't stop you from voting.
I’m sure what everyone will say at this point is “Our votes don’t count”. If truly our votes don’t count, the politicians won’t bother themselves trying to campaign and cajole people into voting for them. Ask yourself “Why do they pay people to vote for them, if votes don’t count?”- You have your answer already. So here is a call for all Nigerians to go and get their PVC and vote in the upcoming election. It’s our right, let’s do the right thing, if not for ourselves, let’s do it for the coming generation.

Whoever will sit in position will always be eaten up by the system and be pressured by the people surrounding them such that they fail to keep their promises in the end.
