Once Tasted, Always Wanted

I knew you have heard already this statement, "Once tasted, always wanted". For sure, it's a tagline of a certain bakeshop company to convince the consumers that they are not only merely satisfied but they will surely keep on coming back to buy the products. Like for instance, in a Jollibee Restaurant, once you have tasted their fried chicken, you always want to buy for it because of its crispiness and juiciness.

All of us wants to live a comfortable and yet luxurious life. It would always our dream to stay in a healthy, happy and peaceful environment. We don't want to face problems, trials, temptations, worries, struggles and troubles that destroy and damage our lives. We don't want something that is difficult to deal with. It seems like we don't want to go out from our comfort zones.

Once tasted, always wanted. I remembered the gospel of Mark (Mk. 9:2-6) that talks about the "Transfiguration" of Jesus.

"Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, "Teacher, how good it is that we are here! We will make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah".

At that time, Peter doesn't want to step down from the mountain that's why he wanted to make three tents. For the reason that he was able to experience the life of being free from any conflicts and troubles. He felt no hunger and thirsty on the mountain where the Transfiguration happened. But on the foot of the mountain where people live suffered a lot of bad realities in life. There is always a conflict between the lawmakers and the priest, cry of the people, hunger, hatred, worries, crimes, disobedient and pains.

Once tasted, always wanted. Are you wondering that once the prices of all commodities and even the oil are fastly increasing but it is slowly getting roll back? Businessmen don't want to decrease the prices of all their products because they enjoyed much the big profits they earned. Before, while the war between Russia and Ukraine was still going on, all the prices of different products were badly affected because of the oil. What the other businessmen did, they increased the prices of all their products though it's an old stocks. It was evidently happened even to our place. They took and grabbed it as an opportunity to gain more profits. Because once they tasted more earnings, they always wanted to earn bigger. But the consumers who were affected most have nothing to do but to buy since they need the products much.

Once tasted, always wanted. This is also known to the people who are greedy in position, power and authority. The election is fast approaching here in the Philippines. In our constitution, candidates in the local government are given three successive terms to lead and govern the people if they won on the election. Each term consists of three years of service. A total of nine years to lead the people if he or she fortunately wins the game. After that service, he or she will no longer be able to run for the next election. Political dynasty is a serious problem in our country.

This political issue is happened also in our place. Our current mayor will be her last term today because she has consecutively won the elections for three successive terms. She passed her position to her husband again to run as mayor. Her husband was our also ex-mayor for nine years. Why they will not run to any higher position so that the other candidates will be given a chance to run and lead the people? They will not improve themselves if they remained at the same position repeatedly. How much more the other people to improve if they were hindered by the greediness of political power of among politicians. Once you tasted, always wanted.

Does this mean they were good at all? What is the main reason why they don't want others to replace their position? Is it the same reason with King Herod when he heard about Jesus who was prophesied to be the King of Jews?
