The chariots that belonged to the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun were moved to a new museum, near the pyramids, and Cairo hopes that this will attract more tourists to this country.
Lebanese cedar and animal skin carriages have been on display at the Egyptian Military Museum in Cairo since 1987, but antiquities authorities decided to move all artifacts found in the young pharaoh's tomb in Luxor to the Great Egyptian Museum.
Tutankhamun ruled Egypt for 10 years as a pharaoh, until his death at the age of 19, around 1324 BC."The military teams, which arrived from the military museum, are the sixth team of King Tutankhamun," said the director of the museum, Tarej Sjed Tavfik.
According to him, six carriages were found in Tutankhamun's tomb, some of which were intended for ceremonies, some for hunting, and some for war purposes. "For the first time, all these carriages will be exhibited together in the Great Egyptian Museum," he explained Tavfik.
The new museum, located just above the Great Pyramid of Giza, was opened with the intention of being the largest archeological museum in the world.
The tourism sector is one of Egypt's main sources of foreign exchange, but has been in a difficult situation since the 2011 uprising that led to the withdrawal of then-President Hosni Mubarak.
Tutankhamun's carriage was dismantled before it was placed in the tomb, but it was reconstructed for the needs of the museum in Cairo. Some scientists even believe that the pharaoh suffered fatal injuries immediately after falling from the carriage whose replica is shown in the photo above.
The great Egyptian museum will enable Egypt to become a great world center of Pharaoh's history and an unavoidable place for Egyptologists. The museum aims to understand the diversity of Egyptian heritage and art monuments that were to be exhibited in one place and in one place in order to maintain and preserve this vast heritage.
With its unique location in the middle of the past and present, the Great Egyptian Museum will be housed on the site of ancient artifacts that create an interactive experience for visitors; where a bridge is being built between the past and the future.
The museum has been set up as the largest archeological museum in the world with a passage between the museum and the Giza plateau to facilitate the movement of tourists between two attractions about two kilometers away.
Now I googled this museum. It is very interesting.
