Lights Out
The importance of having backups is often underestimated. I didn’t plan to write today, but since I cannot do anything other than use my phone. I’ll just write anything that comes to mind.
We all know that one person who is always prepared for anything. They have a backup plan for when their car breaks down, they have a backup plan for when their phone dies, and they even have a backup plan for when their internet goes out. Well, we want to be that person. Sadly, my school management isn’t like this person.
Having a backup generator is always a good idea, especially in times of emergency. Having a backup generator can help you keep your home running during a power outage, which can be very helpful in the event of a natural disaster. But sadly, the hostels here depend 100% on central electricity supply.
I was just lying in bed, browsing through various groups on telegram and checking the apes I minted, when I heard people yelling. I quickly got up and went to see what was going on. It turned out that power won’t be turned on in the whole hostel today. I wasn't sure what to do because I used up my power bank during the day.
My school is trying to cut costs on electricity while trying to repair out power generating plant. So light goes out in the hostel around 8am and returns 6pm while other areas on campus have 24/7 electricity. So imagine not having light for more than a day. Thankfully, my laptop is fully charged, so I’d use it overnight.
I am currently in @Happyboy ‘s room and I might spend the night there. The hostel is very hot and smelly. Another option would have been to lodge in a hotel for the night, but I don’t think it is really worth paying $30 just to avoid staying in the hostel.
The student affairs department have released a broadcast message, stating that they are aware of the outage and will do everything in their power to sort it out as soon as possible.
Here’s the message from the school management
“ IMPORTANT NOTICE; POWER OUTAGE IN THE NEW HALL HOSTEL COMPLEX
We wish to inform the students and the university community at large that there has been a ruptured underground cable in a very critical area which has caused the New Hall Hostel complex to experience power outage. Be rest assured that power will be restored tomorrow.
While we are trying to restore things to normalcy, all hostels in the New Hall complex will have water tonight. We regret any inconvenience this has caused.

I don’t think I’d have a wonderful night rest. I might say up all through. No backup generator means no light, no water, and a very hot night.
Generator is a must but it's cost a lot, yet it's very nice to have that for back up incase of this kind of emergency. No electricity sucks especially now that we are living in a modernize world where gadgets and technologies need electicity to work.
