Wouldn't you have done the same?
"Please ma, help me out. My mother is struggling for survival in the province, I only came to work here in the city so that I can make a living to care for myself and my family, I didn't know things would turn out like this".
Those were Elizabeth's last words before the police officer left the interrogation room.
She was a bit confused and didn't understand why a 16-year-old girl would kill a man if she wasn't threatened.
Before now...
Elizabeth came from a poor family, he father died when she was just 4. Her mother had a twin a few weeks before his life ended in a ghastly accident, Elizabeth was too young to understand everything but she started knowing as grew because life became very difficult with their father.
Her mother withdrew her from a private school when she couldn't cope with the kid's tuition fee, life took a new turn. Their father's family stepped back, they weren't ready to be of help and she just took the kid's responsibility on herself. She went doing chores from home to home and when Elizabeth finished secondary school things got worse.
Sending her to a federal university was the mother's plan until she developed an illness that grounded her, she couldn't work and it became the end of Elizabeth and her sibling's education.
On a fateful night, her mother woke her and told her that it was time for her to go and get a job because she must be educated at all costs. It was a hard decision to make because she was just 15 years old but there was no other option since no one was willing to help.
The following morning, Elizabeth went to a requirement agency in the village but was turned down because of her age. She was about to leave when a woman remembered that someone needed a housemaid so she called her back and told her about it. She went home excited but she had to move to the city which made her mother scared but Elizabeth assured her that she would be fine.
She did the necessary documentation and left for the city after a week, it was an emotional one for the mother but she was left with no choice.
Elizabeth got to her new home and settled in well, she was loved by her boss. The woman took her as a daughter and wasn't giving the young any stress. She works at the airport and was having a little girl, she needed someone to care for the girl while at work.
Things were great until Mr. Collins, the husband of Elizabeth's boss took an interest in the young girl. He was jobless and wouldn't give her breathing space, Elizabeth always lock herself up in her room whenever she is left alone with the man and that made her start having issues with her boss.
She wasn't able to do the house chores at the right time and she was scared to tell her boss, quitting the job wasn't an option because she has barely worked for two months. She endured it until one weekend when Mrs. Collins had to work at night at the airport, Elizabeth has to sleep in their daughter's room in case she needs attention at night.
The kid room was accessible from Mr. and Mrs. Collins's bedroom, it gave the girl lots of concern but she felt the man wouldn't want to try anything stupid in the presence of their 16-month-old daughter but she was wrong. At 1 am, Mr. Collins pretended to come to check the daughter when he noticed Elizabeth was fast asleep.
He gently took the little girl to his bedroom and returned for Elizabeth, she woke up immediately he touched her body. She was too small to battle with the drug addict, no wonder his wife couldn't entrust the daughter's care to him because of his irresponsible lifestyle.
After a few minutes of struggle, he undressed Elizabeth. The young girl begged him but he wouldn't listen, he took her virginity with tears in her eye and pain in her heart. He went on to threaten her about the incident, he promised to kill her if she ever mentioned it to anyone.
She pretended nothing happened when the boss came around but she was curious why her daughter's bedspread was on the line when she got back. Elizabeth lied about the girl throwing up so she had to wash but the lie was far from reality.
Elizabeth became more careful around the house and she moved on as nothing happened but a month later, her boss had this night shift job again. She began to panic knowing that the boss might want to take advantage of her again, she immediately requested an urgent leave to see her mother.
The boss persuaded her to wait till the next morning which she wasn't happy about so immediately the boss left, she took the smallest table knife and went around the house with it. The husband came home drunk and didn't hesitate to pounce on her immediately she opened the door for him. He removed the door key and hid it so that Elizabeth wouldn't be able to run outside the house.
She ran to grab the knife and stabbed the man multiple times, Mr. Collins bled to death. Immediately he died, she wanted to run but she couldn't find the keys to the only entrance into the house.
She searched everywhere and had to wait, it felt like the whole world was against her. She wished she had allowed him to have his way with her and could have just left the job in the morning., she cried and didn't have anyone to tell her story.
She thought of ending her life as well to save her the stress but she wouldn't do it because her mother was waiting for her to return soon.
Mrs. Collins's vehicle horn brought Elizabeth back to life around 6 am, she knocked but didn't get a response so she went to pick up her spare key from the car.
She opened the door only for her to see her lifeless husband with bloodstains on Elizabeth where she knelt crying. Mrs. Collins called the cops without asking what happened, she had beaten the life out of Elizabeth before the police arrived.
They took her away in handcuff and were taken into the interrogation room for questioning.
The present.
The police officer who interrogated Elizabeth was restless, she had a daughter of that age and can't imagine her going through what Elizabeth went through.
She knew that Mr. Collins had a wealthy family who would spend anything just to get Elizabeth punished, going to the court wasn't an option. The Collins are everywhere, they are rich influential and that made them feel like a god.
The police officer met with one other police and they made an escape plan for Elizabeth. She was given a drug that shut down her body for over 12 hours, she was declared dead in police custody and her corpse was sent home.
Her mother cried on seeing her body but one of the officers came around to ensure she wasn't buried, they pretended and deceived everyone to believe Elizabeth was buried. The police made plans and helped their family to a neighboring country where they started a new life.
Elizabeth's mother couldn't thank the police enough and asked why she helped her daughter that much, the woman answered. "Elizabeth looked too young to face such problem and her short investigation made it clear that Mr. Collins has abused more than 6 girls in the last 4 months".
In the end, she asked Elizabeth's mother if she wouldn't have done the same to help Elizabeth if she happens to be the police handling the case.

Influential people are the ones who are most likely to take advantage of those who are weak. I wished the world is not as cruel as that because that's the sad truth of the story, it happens in real life. Many have been convicted that are victims but because of power, people became voiceless and condemned for the mistakes that they did not even do. I would've done the same with the policemen. How could a 15-year-old girl, kill a man with no reason at all? It was clearly self-defense for monsters like Mr. Collins. The wife is so blind to see about that.
