What if money could do it all...
Right from his teenage days, Ben was known to be someone who wants to be successful at all costs. His parents made him understand that money is the only thing that matters in life, when you have money then you can have anything in the world and to make money, he has to be successful in his academics.
Ben got used to being locked up by his parent so he can concentrate on his studies, he doesn't have access to even TV except for his computer that he uses for just four hours on weekends.
He locks himself up reading and searching for opportunities online to become successful quickly. He took academics so seriously that he barely had friends, he never found interest in anything that has to do with social life. Being the only child, he doesn't have anyone to distract him and his parents were super proud of him because he was hungry for success.
Despite his high desire for success, Ben sees everything around him as a competition. He wants nobody above him, he always wants to be the boss and master of everything or everyone.
Things went smoothly and he got admission on his first attempt into the university, he promised his parent to make them proud which he did. He graduated with distinction and he was the best student in the school that year but he wasn't satisfied because he was 0.16gpa away from setting a record of the first student to graduate with 5.0gpa.
It baffled lots of people how Ben was able to resist ladies in school because they were always flocking around him since he was brilliant. He fell in love at one point but he couldn't manage the relationship and academics together so he had to drop the feelings.
He went for his Masters and his parents advised him to work with it before pursuing his Ph.D. He applied for various jobs but things didn't work as planned, he lacked human relationships and that was a huge problem for him. He eventually got a job with the help of his father and Ben continued living his competitive lifestyle, he won the best staff award back to back but he wasn't satisfied because he wanted no one above him.
He went on and on trying to beat the people ahead but it didn't work and it led to depression for him.
Ben quit his job and started his own business, he became a threat to lots of businesses and he rose to the top among the big businesses in Nigeria. He became successful not just in his country but at a global level at the age of 40years.
At that point, he had no one to compete with anymore. He could afford anything in the world, he felt fulfilled, he was happy he could give his parents everything they wanted in life but he wasn't happy with his life.
Ben started feeling empty, he couldn't carry on alone after his parents passed on when he was 43 and he realized that he had no one he could call his own, life took a new turn because he had to learn how to keep relationships with people that have nothing to do with business.
He thought of having a wife to be his companion but every woman that came his way was eventually gold diggers, they only agree to date him because he had money. Ben was close to 50 and he couldn't find the connection he was looking for but only a few knew because he had a small stature. After his last relationship crashed due to the girlfriend having multiple affairs, he came up with a plan.
He decided to hide his wealth and name, he went to an undeveloped part of his countryside to see if someone would love him naturally.
He got a small apartment, moved in, and started a new life. It was difficult but he manage to blend in and it baffled how the average people make themselves happy because he had only been taught that only money brings happiness.
He got close to people and discovered that happiness has nothing to do with wealth, soon he met a lady in her thirties that would help him fetch water and sometimes even give him food. They became friends, it got tighter and it led to a relationship.
An emergency business trip came up and he had to leave even before daybreak, his driver came to pick him and he didn't have the chance to say goodbye to her. While he was about to board the plane, he couldn't take his mind off her and that made him confused.
I have enough money and I am still going in search of it for what purpose? What if I lose this lady who happens to be the missing puzzle of my life? She completes me and brings me happiness, I don't think I would ever want her to leave my life.
He told his pilot and personal assistant that he wouldn't be making the trip anymore, he went back immediately. On getting home, he was surprised to meet the lady sitting outside waiting patiently for him with a plastic cooler filled with porridge. He couldn't hold back tears as he hugged her because he hasn't felt loved in his life that much.
She was surprised because he was putting on expensive wears that she only see on TV, the vehicle outside was the latest Benz model and it brought questions.
All she could say was "how? when? Ben didn't allow her to stress herself, they went in and he explained everything to her. It was an emotional moment for them both but it was the beginning of a great life for them.
She didn't believe his stories until she checked his name on the internet in a cyber cafe. It took time before she agreed to marry him because her parents weren't convinced. Finally, they got married, bore kids and they lived happily ever after.
The story is fictional and talks about how much importance we should place on money because lots of things in the world don't end with money.
If the richest men in the world couldn't keep their women with their wealth, there are lots of things you can't achieve no matter how rich you. I stand to be corrected if you think otherwise, thanks.
Sorry it's taken so long to get to this, it's been bookmarked since the day you posted it!
I totally agree with you, there is no amount of money that can buy the love between two people :) They also say, use your money now because you can't when you're dead...no sense sitting on a huge bank account when you're on your last breaths on earth. Live, love, travel...
