Where is this world heading to? Why do people nowadays think of taking their lives? Is suicide now a solution? These and many more questions were what was going on in my mind as I read the story of a promising youngster named Dazharia Shaffer who took her life early February this year at age 18.
Dazharia Shaffer who was known online as Bxbygirlldee before her suicide mission was a Tik Tok video superstar with over 14 million followers on social media. She has already made name for herself and become famous just at a young age. Given the success she achieved, I wonder why she would choose to take her life via a suicide rope in the bathroom, leaving only a note?
How could a young lady of 18 who was enjoying life and living the good life and learning how to dance on the streets be lured into a situation where she became depressed and developed suicidal thoughts? Why can't the good life go on? That is the question.
Her immediate family came to visit her and try to get her to see the light but to no avail. On the morning of February 3, they returned home after trying to get her to listen to her family, the same that would have taken the same trip a week later. They could not make any headway, yet she still had suicidal thoughts.
With time, the family realized that something was wrong with their daughter, not only because of the way she was acting but also because of the face they saw when she came home. A day before her death, she posted a series of videos on her Instagram with the single title "Last post" Too bad. The Shaffer family has been devastated since the death of their beautiful daughter.
Why do people think of suicide as medicine to end their troubles and the suffering they feel? Most people around the world have the type of thoughts that Dazharia Shaffer had. All over the world, the rate of suicide has gone up and continues to increase. People now think of suicide as a solution to the pain and suffering they are facing in life. But if they really analyze the situation, the consequences are just unimaginable.
Why should someone like Dazharia Shaffer who could make a living just by dancing online and making her followers laugh commit suicide?
Today many people are taking their lives than ever before. In the United States, the same country where Dazharia died, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with over 48,000 deaths per year. That is an average of one person every 11 minutes. That is a huge number and each death is felt deeply by the people who knew the person.
Some of the victims, especially teenage girls are hit with sexual abuse by their boyfriends or husbands and this can cause depression. There have been cases of depression in young girls where they do not know how to deal with their circumstances and take their lives. Some parents, who once thought that they had raised their daughters with love and respect, see how their teenage daughters have lost their respect and respect for their parents and ended their lives.
Many people see suicide as the best option when they are having suicidal thoughts when they are hurt or suffering. But is that really the best solution to end depression? Not always. It takes some time for someone to realize that their suffering does not justify their self-harm and it takes more than just some sleepless nights.
Before taking the step of committing suicide, individuals have to have reasons for it. There have been several cases where people want to kill themselves because they felt the government is moving too slowly. Even in families, some people see suicide as a solution.
Suicide affects people in many ways and there is no cut-and-dry answer to the situation. It is not as easy as simply changing the future. Is it possible to talk to someone in such a situation and tell them what they should do? Is there a way to show them the brighter side of life?
The parents of Dazharia Shaffer, who have seen what kind of person their daughter was and what she was going through, would like people to help save other children by keeping the message of suicide prevention in mind. The world cannot afford to lose another young person to this awful disease. Dazharia Shaffer is dead. She has left her legacy behind that will forever be with her family. She will never see her dreams of stardom come true. There will be no more videos of Dazharia dancing on a beach, twirling her hair, and smiling at the camera. It was a long wait for those who knew her but for those who have never seen her on their screens, the real world of celebrities is that they live in front of us. Dazharia Shaffer lived in the virtual world. We have to know the importance of that.
In life, we need to live in the present. We need to put away the past and focus on the things that we have now. We need to cherish the life that we have and focus on the things that matter. Life is full of challenges, it can be scary, we can have bad days, we can feel depressed or we can feel happy. We cannot let it stop us. No matter what hardships we are facing in life, we should fight them out.
Dazharia Shaffer had great dreams but she could not realize them because of depression. It is a common disease that affects everyone and everyone should have a strong support group to help them. We all have different personalities, talents, and abilities but we need to work together.
All of us have the right to have dreams but we need to have the courage to work hard and make our dreams come true.
Conclusion
People should try to stay strong and not let depression take control of them. Life is hard, it can be a bit lonely. We have to seek out people that can help us.
It does not matter what age you are or what you do, you should know that you are important to someone and you can make a difference to someone. You can do so by sharing your experiences, the good and the bad. Don't forget to dream, and keep hope alive. Say no to suicide.
