First of all, I would just like to greet all of you with a Merry Christmas!
It's the season of giving, sharing, and spreading love and joy to others, especially to our loved ones, family, and friends again as we celebrate the birth of our savior, Jesus Christ. It's also the best time to ask and give forgiveness to those people whom we have done wrong or who have done something wrong to us.
During this time, most people are probably already preparing (or has already prepared) their favorite dishes that they will serve at their tables and enjoy with their families. Some are also having and attending Christmas parties from left and right, and exchanging gifts with their friends.
Meanwhile, there are also those who are not celebrating it not because they don't want to but because they have no choice but to spend their time away from their families due to their work. There are also those who have no one to celebrate it with so they prefer to just sleep.
Being a young adult now, I can see the difference between how fun it was to celebrate Christmas day when I was still a kid, and now that I'm already some years older than before, and I can't help but just reminisce those good old days as we can't turn back to those times anymore.
School Christmas Programs
Being an Elementary pupil and High School student, one of the highlights of our student days is the school Christmas programs that we need to attend because it only happens once a year. This is the perfect time to exchange gifts with your classmates and think of what is the perfect gift that you should give to your Monito/ Monita. It is also the time to be grouped according to barangays as the students will be the ones to prepare the delightful foods.
What I also miss about school Christmas programs is that we have to prepare Christmas games to make the party even more fun and memorable, and also prepare for the prizes of the winners for every game. I also recall those times when we were still in Elementary where we have to practice for our intermission number, like singing Christmas songs or preparing for a dance production.
Family Christmas Parties
When I was still a kid, I remember we used to have a huge Family Christmas party almost every year, where our relatives (the siblings of my father) from abroad and who are living in Manila would come home to celebrate Christmas with the whole family, consisting of my aunties, uncles, cousins, and even some of our distant relatives.
They would be the ones to prepare almost everything, from the food to the games. And I together with my cousins would be playing the Christmas games they prepared for the kids. And our parents would also play those games intended for them. Some games we played were the bring me, longest breathing (where we have to say Merry Christmas), answering the questions related to the bible, and some of the usual group games like passing the bouquet, trip to Jerusalem, longest line, among others.
I can't remember when was the last time we had a big Family Christmas party anymore where it would be held in the family house of my father. I surely miss having Christmas parties with the whole family/clan but I guess it's better to just celebrate it with our own families since some of the family members are not on good terms or are still abroad.
Caroling
It's not that I have experienced it a lot when I was still a kid because when my cousins would go out to carol at night before, my brother wouldn't allow me to join them, but I still got to experience it too. And the last time I went out to sing Christmas carols was when I celebrated my 19th birthday and some of my friends decided to do caroling after my simple birthday celebration.
We only got to sing to some of the nearby houses in our place and we got lucky when we sang a Christmas carol at the Brgy. Captain's house where he gave us 1,000 pesos for singing a short song. We were lucky because he was a little drunk at that time and he became extra generous for giving us a blue bill. He also gave us love and life advice.
Well, these are just some of the things I miss during the Christmas season, where parties are everywhere. However, it should not be the center of the celebration but just an addition to make it more fun and lively, and we should not forget why we are celebrating Christmas.
Merry Christmas bhie! Na miss ko mag-organize ng mga Christmas parties and events. Tapos Madaming regalong natatanggap hahaha
