Valuable Life Lessons from Start-Up
This is a continuation of my previous article, "Valuable Life Lessons from Start-Up". Just like the first one, in here I'm just going to list down some of the remarkable and impactful lines I heard from the characters in the drama. These quotes were either said by the main characters or the supporting ones.
"Sail off without a map."
Most of us probably always make a plan, either when we are just going on a trip with our family and friends, or either when we're heading on our solo vacation. We would always plan everything ahead of time, from booking the tickets, tours, accommodation, the clothes we'll wear, and even the places we should visit once we get to our destination. This way, we make sure that things will go off smoothly and there will be no hassle along the way. We always tend to make plans and stick to them.
The same is true with our life and our future. We always think and plan about it to the point that we even couldn't sleep at night because we're excited and sometimes even anxious that things will not go according to our plans. We always prepare and plan for the future that sometimes we forget that nobody knows what the future holds. And then we also forget to live in the moment and just go with the flow of life.
Sometimes, it's good to sail off without a map, to go somewhere without an exact destination in mind. We will probably get lost, be at risk, but we will also get to know ourselves more, and figure out how we will handle things that we thought we won't be dealing with. We will meet new people along the way who may also be sailing off without a map and these people will become your companion as you cruise through the waves of life. And as you go on with this journey, you will realize that the most beautiful moments we have are those that we didn't plan on. Just like what we always say, "Unplanned moments are the best in life."
"What's ordinary to one person can be extraordinary to another."
Perhaps to you, it was just a piece of burger that you can easily buy anytime, but to another person, it means that he was able to make both ends meet and provide for his family, so it is now time for him to pat himself on the back and celebrate this little victory of him.
Sometimes, whether we're aware or not, we tend to belittle and laugh at things that other people have and enjoy doing because we think that it is just an ordinary thing. We tend to forget that we're not living the same lives and that we're not enjoying the same privileges. Some are not even blessed to have any privilege in life. So before looking down on others, be considerate of their feelings because what seems to be useless to you is valuable for others.
"You're supposed to learn by losing."
Many of us are afraid to take a risk and try something we really want to do because we are afraid that we might lose in the end and become a failure. We don't want to look like a loser in the eyes of others just because we didn't get to achieve the result we want to have.
But what if you tried and took the risk and ended up winning? Then it could have changed your life. But what if you failed and didn't get the exact result you were expecting? Then you could've gained an experience and a lesson that you can apply once you try again.
In life, there are no winners and losers, but there are only gainers. If you took the risk and succeeded, then you gained another accomplishment. Meanwhile, if you took the risk but failed, you didn't actually lose, but you gained additional knowledge that will give you an advantage. There's nothing wrong with losing, so don't be afraid to take the risk.
So this is now the second part of the valuable lessons from Start-Up and I'll probably write one more article before I bid goodbye to the series. Anyway, thank you for reading. 감사합니다, 친구들! 😹
Para na rin akong nagrewatch, Florie. This is really a reminder for us who keep on dreaming and hustling.
