The decision can be understood as a way to make room for his replacement, member of the autarchy, Rui Gonçalves, shine until the elections and keep the board in the PS. But Joel Marques, in statements to O MIRANTE, says that this is not what motivated him, but tiredness and knowing when is the time to leave. Chairman of the board for eleven years, the graphic arts entrepreneur, stresses that he dedicated the best years of his life to the parish, between the ages of 30 and 41, and now asks that they let him rest.
The former president, who submitted his resignation on Thursday, October 15, considers his departure to be a way of proving what he has always said, that he did not want to be attached to power. Despite abandoning autarchic life, Joel Marques, with a second son at the age of one, does not close the door to the possibility of embracing other projects. Even saying that he is not looking for places, he admits that he is available to collaborate with the parish and the Socialist Party and open to hearing proposals that arise and are interesting and an asset.
Considering that because he is tired, the management of the autarchy must stay with those who have more strategic capacity at this moment, Joel Marques says that to accept a new role he must feel comfortable with what he is going to do and feel useful. The ex-mayor also justifies that at this time the local government has to rethink its strategic plans, making no sense to be the one to do it because, by the law of limitation of mandates, he could no longer run again.
Regarding the parish council, which also covers the town of Arripiado, Joel Marques recalls that when he arrived in office in 2009, he came across a tiny budget and a board that did little more than manage the cemetery and pass dog licenses. . Today, he stresses, the municipality has a senior university and projects, such as the birth incentive program, or the Junta Jovem.
Asked whether the Judiciary's investigation of business involving the autarchy and the family company, arising from an anonymous complaint, had an influence on the decision, he says that he has not and that he has never heard of the case again. The Judiciary had carried out searches in March last year at the junta and in the chamber, but since then, he guarantees, he has not been accused or contacted.
João Moura announced his re-election to the leadership of the Santarém district political commission of the PSD, being to date the only known candidate. The elections are scheduled for October 24th and the process is proceeding without major waves, in contrast to what happened in previous suffrages, when there was more than one candidate.
The deputy to the Assembly of the Republic and president of the Municipal Assembly of Ourém says he leads a list that includes a continuity team. On the closest political agenda are the 2021 municipal elections, in which it is proposed to reinforce the number of PSD mandates throughout the district. An ambitious goal, given that the Social Democrats have been losing ground in the region to the Socialists in that field.
In the district, PSD currently leads the municipalities of Santarém, Mação, Sardoal, Ferreira do Zêzere, Ourém and Rio Maior (the last two in coalition). The PS manages 13 chambers and the CDU two.
The hydraulic exploitation of the Tagus River, enhancing the centrality of logistics and transportation infrastructure in the district of Santarém and contributing to the affirmation of the economic fabric and companies in the region are some of the purposes of the re-candidacy announced by João Moura.
