Student Volunteer: My heart goes for children
Your service of kindess teaching the young generation will always be imprinted in their hearts and minds.
Have you ever tried volunteering to teach young children in the community? Do you still remember the smiles of those children listening to your speech? I believed that one of the most satisfying feelings I ever had was to be complimented by those children.
Looking back when I am still in senior high school, I had this feeling and sense of volunteer to teach young children. Although I am still young too, please don'7t react impulsively. Kidding! Yeah, my heart always been set and space for them.
My first ever volunteer teaching was held in Parañaque City
This happened in the year 2018 when I was a senior high school student at Bacoor, Cavite. As what I have said, I always had this sense of volunteering and I don't know why. I just felt it inside. When an opportunity comes in my door, and I immediately grabbed it.
One of my teachers back then was initiating students to join teaching as part of our social development. Yes, it is not graded nor part of any subjects we had. This teacher of mine has this heart to young children as well. When I heard about it, then I listed my name.
During those day, I still remember how genuine and authentic the smiles of those children. The children greeted us with smiles and hugs. The first activity we did was to play with rope. I know some of you play 'comba', or jumping jack with multi-player.
I find it difficult to teach them how to read because most of them are not attending in school at all. They aged 4-10 and you will noticed that even though some kids are aged 10, they really can't read. Even the basic of the basics like vowels and constants are hard for them. That's the reality I saw in the life of poor family there.
FUN FACT!
Lloyd Cafe Cadena, one of the pioneer in vlogging in the Philippines was once donated books and slippers in the area according to their parents.
My second teaching in the community in Bacoor
I still remember the memories I had with these kids. I shared almost 2 years with them every Sunday. After the worship service and my appointments in church I always go to Bacoor to meet these kids. Actually, the children you are looking now are the first three I taught, and was eventually grew in number, 13.
Basically, since these children are studying already in their respective schools. I just teach them word of God. Yeah, we had this small group and I feel happy whenever I finished the lesson with the assurance that the life of those children will be good. I may not be present all the time, but His presence will.
Currently, I'm not able to meet them since pandemic started. We just did video calls and exchanging messages via Messenger. I really miss these pals. I would love to visit them personally when I have a chance.
The kid who I taught me the most
Are you wondering what this kid taught me? I met this kid in the computer shop when I want to connect my phone to the nearest WiFi vendor machine. They actually own that computer shop and he was the one who provided me the service. That time you noticed how bubbly and cheerful he was.
Then in the following week, I saw him again. That's the time I asked his name and why he's quite slim. Like really slim, may not visible in the photo. He told me that he has a severe asthma and lung disease, I don't remember what particularly it is. He was smiling to me and to other people even though he is in pain inside.
We talked and chatted via Messenger. I became attached to this kid and we felt comfortable to each other. The day when I noticed that he's not meeting me anymore every Sunday, I felt something wrong. Later on, I found out that he barely breath and cannot walk. I prayed him over and over again. That kid fought so hard and he was determined to overcome his disease.
You know what through praying and his dedication to be well, I think 3 months or so he gradually recovering in a rapid speed. Now, he is still focusing to strengthen his cardio and maintain his wealth.
It's not too late to educate the young generation. They are waiting for us to be taught and educated. Volunteer teaching is fun. You never know what life lesson you will realize after.

What a beautiful job you do by offering yourself as a volunteer to teach children, I congratulate you for that initiative. I wish there were more human beings like you with the need to be able to offer your help. It must be very satisfying when those children identify you as the person who had the opportunity to teach them something, you must have very pleasant memories of those activities. Greetings!
