Back to it Again
Hello friends and readers :) How is everyone? It's Monday here and I'm feeling good to start the week out. The weekend is over, it's time to plan and accomplish things for this new week :)
Today I'm going to start my work out journey that has been missing for over a month. I'll take you on this first day back adventure and why it is time. Get ready I will share some pictures and information of this awesome gym that is walking distance from my employment.
Why is it time?
I have been actively working out for quite some time. I just get an itch when it comes to working out. Being sidelined due to a recent surgery has been tough. I feel my body has got weeker and is a little noticable. The first two weeks after surgery I got off my normal diet routine. The last two weeks I have pretty much got back on track there.
Waiting to go back was in large due to being physically cleared by the doctor. I could have started on Thursday last week but I like the idea of a new fresh week. Also it gave me time to get some new medication in my eyes that are suppose to help with some pressure problems I'm having. I have a feeling they are working because there is less pain and headaches. The headaches were concentrated just over my eyebrow on my surgical eye. Knock on wood haven't had one since Friday. I feel confident now that it's the right time to start.
Yesterday and this morning
Working out was very much on my mind yesterday. I was thinking what should I do my first day back. I had several thoughts but I thought I should take it easy starting out. I am deciding to walk 1 mile, run 1 mile, and walk 1 additional mile.
Today I woke up and quickly packed my gym bag with everything. I made a quick post on Noise about my workout today. I than came here to to read a few articles. I always read the oldest articles first in my notifications but today I seen an article by @Zainab_Fatima that sparked my attention. The article title was, "Tune into Healthy Life Style." How could I pass it up and wait later to read? This has to be a sign that today is the right day to start. After reading I was even more motivated to get back to the gym.
The gym facility
This is no ordinary gym, it's huge!! It's the largest gym in the entire U.S. Military. Let me tell you a few things about it. It has 2 full size basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts, 2 tennis courts, 4 racket ball courts, a soccer pitch, indoor Olympic size pool, a 0.4 mile running track, and several types of work out equipment. I can go there anytime I want for free, not a bad deal right?
Time to get back to it again
I started off by walking 3 laps so thats 1.2 miles. I guess I did that in about 2o minites. It was no big deal for me. To be honest walking doesn't really do anything for me. I mean I know it's healthy but as far as working up a sweat and feeling accomplished it doesn't satisfy me.
The next thing I did was run a mile on the tread mill. I never ran out of breath so my heart rate must have been good. I didn't run my normal speed though because I wanted to take it easy. So for those of you that run you know what its like to have heavy legs. I experienced this and I couldn't loosen them up. I even paused the machine a couple of times to stretch. I wasn't going to let this hold me back so I continued. Below is my treadmill stats.
After the short run I walked another 3 laps. I was pressing for time so I completed these laps in about 15 minutes. So for a pretty easy workout I did work up a little sweat. One last thing I decided to do was weigh myself, I was shocked I only gained about 2 lbs from when I last worked out a month ago. Well the good thing is I'm back to it again.
Final Thoughts
The main thing is I'm back doing something I love to do. My body has just felt empty not working out for so long. I may not be close to where I was at before but I think I will be soon. The next few days I will be increasing my activity. I set a goal to run 3 miles a day before the end of the month. I'll get there if I don't have any setbacks out of my control.
Take care friends and see you around.
That's great! Good to know that things are looking up for you health wise. That is one enormous gym indeed. I don't run but I do like long walks but I haven't done it in about two months now.
