These days almost anything can be made possible. The innovative technology has done great and beyond imaginable things to humankind.
For the past decades medical practitioners, doctors and researchers have contributed a lot in making our lives easy. Things like surgery, cure and even fertility are just a few areas that they have mastered to extend the life of every human being or even create life.
Technology is always behind this making impossible things happen.
Speaking of doctors and fertility, I will share with you a story from a film I just recently watched. By the way I don’t watch films on Netflix as I have no subscription on the popular movie channel (laughs). I just download movies at torrentsdownload.
When I am selecting movie titles from the list of new movies, I check YouTube to watch the trailer first. I am kind of a movie addict so I downloaded four newly released films. The first one was “A quiet place II”, although it was released last year but I haven’t watched it yet. The next was “The super deep 2” which was also released last year. The third film was “False Positive” and was released only last month of this year, June 25 by Hulu. These three films were all horror movies. And the fourth one was of course this veteran actor who is always on my list, Liam Neeson with the film “The Ice Road”. It was also released on June 25 of this current year by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
Anyway this is more like a movie review and sort of spoiler too. The “False Positive” film was starred by Pierce Brosnan. I am a fan of him too, his acting career was mostly recognized in James Bond 007 films. So he was the reason why I downloaded and watched the whole film.
Pierce Brosnan played the role of Dr. John Hindle, a fertility doctor. He was more like the bad guy in this film.
Lucy and Adrian were trying hard to have a baby for two years and they just couldn't make it. They decided to visit Dr. Hindle who was Adrian's former teacher and famous fertility doctor. Lucy then got pregnant after Dr. Hindle inseminates her with the process he invented, the in utero Hindle fertilization. She felt mixed emotions after knowing that she was having triplets during the ultrasound. A twin baby boy and a single baby girl.
Dr. Hindle told the couple that there were possible complications so he suggested a selective reduction. He told them also that the boys were healthy and the baby girl was not and thus suggesting to disable the girl was the best option. Lucy asks the doctor if she has a choice. She told her husband that she wanted to give birth to a baby girl because she has been dreaming of having a little princess. She would name her Wendy.
The couple returned to Dr. Hindle and told about their plans. The doctor then performed the procedure of selective reduction as what Lucy wanted.
While Lucy was pregnant, she felt strange about her husband and the fertility doctor. She would hear noises in their room as if someone was in there. She would also dream of her husband and the doctor having intercourse. Until finally she found documents in her husbands safe containing confidential files about her. She was like being monitored or being a part of some experimental study. She did not confront her husband about it but told it to her friend to seek advice.
She then decided to quit her job and quit visiting Dr. Hindle was respected by her husband for her decision. She no longer felt safe with the doctor. She was suspicious that the doctor did something to her unborn baby girl.
Lucy then switched to a midwife to monitor her pregnancy. When she experiences contractions she goes to the midwife and gives birth. She then found out that she was giving birth to a twin baby instead of a female baby. Before she could push for the second twin, the midwife urged her husband to rush her to the hospital due to heavy bleeding. Adrian brings her to Hindle instead and successfully delivers the second baby.
Lucy was totally confused and depressed. She was expecting to give birth to a female child but a twin baby boy instead. She then thinks that there was a mistake in the selective reduction. Lucy went to Hindle's clinic to confront him. And through the doctor's nurse she found out that her husband and Hindle were aware of all the things that happened from the start. She just realized that her husband was part of the operation.
Lucy then sneaks into a secret room in the clinic. She found her placenta and the reduced fetus there. Hindle then comes in and he reveals that it was his sperm that was used for inseminating her.
Hindle was trying to drug her but she managed to restrain him into a medical chair. She was attacked by Hindle’s nurse but she overpowered the nurse and drugged her instead. She then beats Dr. Hindle bled and destroyed all his sperm. Lucy leaves the clinic with the fetus.
She went home and imagined herself killing the babies. When her husband came home she confronted him but her husband denied the accusation. She then gave the twin to her husband and yelled at him to leave. Lucy was helpless and subdued. She picked up the fetus and tried to breastfeed it as if the fetus was feeding.
The film received different critics although it was a good movie and relatable. It’s just that it was kind of predictable for me right when the doctor did the process of inseminating Lucy. I had already thought that what if the sperm in the syringe was switched.
Overall it was a good film. I highly suggest for couples out there to watch or even if you are single parent you can try to watch the film. You might want to include this film in your next movie marathon this weekend.
