One-on-one adoption gone wrong

Recently I heard a story of a couple who almost lost their life in the hands of criminals while trying to adopt a baby.

They have been married for almost ten years without a child and were already making plans to adopt a baby. After visiting two orphanages and completed all the legal and government conditions involved, they were yet to be contacted by the officials even after two years. The whole process had already cost them almost $3000, as there were others before them on queue who also wanted to adopt a child.

One day, the woman saw a Facebook post of a 21 years old female student( let's call her Rita) who had got pregnant but was willing to give her baby for adoption as she was not ready to be a mother just yet.

The couple became very much interested and connected with Rita and made their intentions known to her. But Rita told them that she had already given birth and her and her baby were living at her Aunty's place. Nevertheless, she was still ready to give the child away since her aunty was not financially bouyant to take care of the both of them.

The couple assured Rita that her child would be well taken care of if they become his parents and took custody of him. Through chats and videos calls, the couples communicated with Rita for days and Rita also sent them photos of the healthy baby.

Even though Rita had no doubt that the couples would have no problems raising her son for her, she'd also wanted a sort of compensation and she requested to be paid a sum of $500. She would use this money as start up capital for a hair dressing business she plans to start, going forward. Rita's aunty also asked to be paid $250 for looking after Rita mad her child all these while.

The couple immediately agreed to this . By the way they had already spent $3000 in trying to adopt a child through the government but the bureaucracy and formalities involved had been very frustrating. Working with Rita was a much more convenient, and cheaper option.

The couple agreed to pay only after seeing the baby, so a date and venue was fixed for them to come collect the child in exchange for money. For the sake of discretion, Rita's aunty directed them to an isolated location at the outskirts of the city.

When the couple arrived at the deserted area , three armed men rushed towards them and ordered them out of the car. It had been a scam all along and they had fell in the trap.

The couples were accused to be child traffickers who buy children for various diabolical purposes. The mob threatened that they would be dragged to the village square where jungle Justice would be administered to them by their people.

But the couples insisted that they should be taken to a police station where it would'be determined whether they had committed any crime after investigation.

Ofcourse the hoodlums refused and proceeded in collecting all the money they could find on p them, which was about $2000. They also collected their phones and car. They were kidnapped and taken to a nearby bush and insisted they call their family to pay a particular amount for ransom.

But the couple wouldn't agree to this. After much persuasion, they finally left them alone. The armed men gave them directions on their way out of the bush after reiterating that it would have been very easy to have them killed. They only pitied them because of their childlessness.

It's sad that people take advantage on other people feeding on their weaknesses.

Yea. We should always do things the right way sir. Some people would know what they are doing is wrong but would still go through with it because it's more convenient... They weren't adopting, they were buying a child and this is wrong.
