Gender preference in giving birth to children.

A week ago, an older male cousin of mine came visiting at the house with her three sons. We talked about this and that and I had to comment in the fact that his boys whom were age 3, 5 and 7 years old respectively were really growing fast and strong too

Ofcourse their father was proud of them but he frankly told me that he would be very happy of his next child turns out to be a girl. His little boys were so energetic that it's already difficult for him to control them. Hr would really appreciate having a gentle girl that would bring some "peace" and order to his home. However, his wife rather scared of getting pregnant again lest she give birth to another soldier that would make parenting four times difficult for her 😆

Infact, I have seen a handful of singles who'd rather prefer the first child to be a girl. It is believed that daughters are always available to help the parents especially their mothers in building and taking care of the household. Personally I would prefer a female to come first, followed by the males. Maybe two girls and a boy. Two girls, two boys or a boy and a girl. A twin would be cool, one of each gender.. Lol, who knows these things.

I remember when i was in elementary school, there was this story of a man in my neighborhood who had four girls and no sons. He was so frustrated that he barred his wife from returning to his house from the hospital after she gave birth to the fifth daughter. The issue had generated a public outrage and the women in the surrounding streets were so angry that they invaded the man's house and almost attacked him. Well, cases where a husband becomes uneasy due to the ability of his wife to give him a son were quite common in the early 2000s in developing countries. But thanks to modernisation and enlightenment, such mentality are rapidly being eroded from our societies.

Infact basic biology have already proven that wether a woman gives birth to a male or female is all entirely up to the husband.

Based on the type of chromosome that he donates during fertilization. If the husband donates a Y chromosome to his wife, then his wife would definitely birth a boy, but if he gives an X chromosome, then a girl comes. Everything happens by chance.

Recently, I overheard a young man revealed that he's not looking forward to having a female child based on what is "happening" in today's world. According to him, a daughter requires higher maintenance than a son as they are usually very expensive to train. A son could leave his parents home to start looking after himself at an earlier age than a female. But a female had to be nurtured till full maturity.

Even after all the financial, emotional and morally efforts invested in training a female child, she'd be '"shipped" into marriage to another family and bear their name. Worse, she might still easily fall for any kind of man. And if her parents don't give consent, she might abadone her family and go leave with the said individual for free of charge. According to him, a daughter is more likely to bring needless stress and exposure to the family.

Well, this kind of belief is not only archaic but also discriminatory especially in these modern times. Negative vices are not unique to a particular gender. These kind of opinions are quite common among folks of lesser education. Crime and failure is not determined by the sex of a child. So much for ignorance!

Ofcourse There are countless of young Ladies who made their parents and society proud. Needless to say that there are alot of daughters whose husband have assumed the responsibilities of her family when the father's sons are nowhere to be found, especially in a developing country like ours. Likewise there are sons who after marriage have forgotten their fathers house to focus more on his own family and his wife's people. It's a double-edged sword 😆

In all, we should pray to have healthy children they would make us proud irrespective of the gender.

Gender is a wonderful natural difference the creator has made. We should embrace all genders or no gender traits. We must accept if there is any ambiguity in the gender of the newborns.

Whether male or female, when God is involved in our parenting, the rest is easy. They should all grow up to become a good example to their generation.
