Be immuned to greed.

In my country, if you ask an average broke youth still living under his parents what is his dream in life, he'd reply that he wants to make money. He'd say this would so much passion and gusto that might make you think that he had recently heard about a tree that grows money.

If you ask him what skill, trade or value he is currently learning that would be exchanged with money in the future, he'd say nothing. But he spent every little penny he gets in sport betting and forcasting, hoping to make the big money. Well, I'm not against betting, but I know that it's overindulgence destroys the mind in the long term to the extent that an individual becomes hooked, all due to the spirit of greed.

If you ask him who his role models are, he would mention the names of morally hip-hop artistes that flaunts currency notes, gold chains and glamorous models on social media and in music videos. This is the kind of life he admires, even though these set of entertainers had devised evil methods like drug peddling, internet scam that they are used to fund their music career. All these stems from greed.

I have also discovered that most dangerous addictions like masturbation, drug abuse, sexual promiscuity and alcoholism have their foundation deeply rooted in greed. Needless to say that greed is a cancer that have destroyed lives and destinies. It starts from base heart longings that leads the thoughts to wander far and unhindered.

Funny thing is that one who have an undying thirst for the accumulation of material and emphemeral things would in no time still feel bored and empty no matter how much wealth he is able to amass. Likewise, some one who is a victim of a terrible addiction, he would always feel feel miserable and unsatisfied no matter how deep he indulges.

It is said that the greatness of a man is never measured by the millions he possess, niether by the cars or houses he had bought. The true accomplishment of an individual lies on how he had positively touched the lives of those around him. Little wonder why the most famous people in the world whose name would still be remembered long after death are not the richest people in their time, e.g Ghandi, Mandela, Einstein, Michael Jackson and others too numerous to mention.

It is also said that anyone who have added value to the lives of those around him will never be a failure in Life. The reason why the western countries are always ahead than countries in Africa and Asia is because they are able to maintain an attitude of continually adding value rather than constantly chasing money. Sometimes, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the rich man and a poor man in a European nation.

When I was a kid, from the different stories I had read from the holy books and story books, I had thought that it was only the rich folks that are greedy. But today, I have come to realize that the poor could even cause more harm and destruction to the world through greed. This leaves one to only imagine what would happen if they had been the ones bless with money.

Several times, I have seen individuals earning low income who set out to destroy their neighbor, sibling or colleague who have been doing better than them recently through diabolical means just so that they don't enjoy the little fruit of thy labor, even though the greedy individual would not necessarily assume control over property. No wonder they say greed is one of the most deadliest sins.

The world is really suffering badly and we are making things harder by our baseless desires and wants. We forget that life's too short and nothing last forever.
