A One Time Helper
The interview went well. From what she had heard about the company's reputation, Rebecca never expected the interview to be that easy. Even the HR acknowledged that she did very well compared to the other applicants.
She was then summoned to the director's office and yet again a series of questions followed. Then she was ask the trickiest question a job seeker would ever be asked in an interview.
"How much would you like to be paid?'
asked the manager.
Well, just like most other applicants, Rebecca had anticipated this question even before arriving at the venue and she gave as good a response as she could.
She was told that she would be contacted later and she felt quite disapointed. When a company says that, then there's a fifty percent chance that you wouldn't be recalled or employed. Just when she was about to leave, the HR called her back and told her that the Director if the company would like to meet her.
The Director kept looking at her for some moments and this made Rebecca a little bit comfortable.
He began to ask personal questions, then he asked her about her surname which looked very familiar to him. He asked her wether her father was Reverend "so and so" and she said yes. The Reverend was her father.
Then the Director gave a broad smile as he shook his head. This made Rebecca surprised.
Rebecca was more surprised when the man revealed to her that he knew her father and her father was a good person.
""Consider yourself employed" he told her. Apart from the fact that Rebecca had done very well in the interview, she was also the child of his "one time helper". So, he decided that he must give her the job and he ordered that her employment letter to be prepared immediately.
"Your father is a true man of God". He said. Years ago, I once attended his church and he prophesied to me that I would one day establish my own company. I held on to this prophesy for years despite the numerous challenges and today, his vision has come to pass.
The Director further asked about her father and she replied that he was still alive. He told her give him the church address and promised to come see her father the coming Sunday.
Rebecca was very elated me. After four years of being unemployed after graduation, she had just landed a job, with a lucrative firm at that. "This must be the work of God!" She exclaimed.
She told her father about the man who gave her the job but he couldn't even remember his name talk more of his face. Her father had been a pastor for over 25 years and he had ministered to hundreds of people.
Nevertheless, the family were full of joy, especially Rebecca's mother.
