"A hobbit lived in a hole in the ground" - those nine words were enough to start an avalanche of Tolkien's universe, like a lump on a mountain, whose popularity is still not waning, it is even stronger and stronger.

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, a respected lexicographer and expert on the Anglo-Saxon and Old Native languages, will nevertheless remain better known in history as "The Lord of the Rings". The army of fans was helped by the broadcasting of films based on his novels, which will result not only in disguise on Comic Horses, but also in the construction of entire settlements modeled on the famous Hobbiton.

One of the most similar real cities to this imaginary one is Alberobelo. This unusual city in southern Italy is known for its ancient architecture dating back to the 14th century, and since 1996 it has been under the protection of UNESCO, as a World Cultural Heritage.

The characteristic, domed architectural style is believed to be due to the Greeks, who immigrated en masse to Italy during colonization between the 8th and 5th centuries BC. On some roofs, various symbols are drawn in white.

White limestone structures, without mortar, made of dry stone, conical roofs and narrow cobblestones represent a traditional old Mediterranean building, characteristic of the region of Apulia.

Whether directly from his rich mind, or to some extent following the example of this Italian city or similar ancient construction, Tolkien created the city of the hobbits in his novel. In New Zealand, near Matamat, there is a farm on which Hobbiton - the city of hobbits - was built, for the purpose of shooting the movie "The Lord of the Rings".

As I read the article and watch this beautiful picture I feel like I'm in the Middle-earth and hobbit village of Shire. By the way I'm a big fan of Tolkien!

Simon Dale from Wales, for example, who built his own "Hobbit House" on the slopes of the forest, relying on his own strength, skill and the help of relatives and friends.

He did this project in just 4 months, and about $ 4,900 and 1,000 - 1,500 hours of work were spent on construction. During the construction, he used only natural materials, the frame of the future house was made of oak, the stones and earth from the excavations were used for supporting walls and foundations. The wood is taken from the surrounding forests and the insulation of the floors, walls and roofs is made of straw. The main tools were a chainsaw, a hammer and a chisel.

With our habits and pampering today, I can’t imagine we could live in a hole. By the way, these photos are as beautiful as your article.
