How to increase confidence
You can be a very shy person. You may also have heard helpful tips from other people to be more confident when talking to other people.
Chronic shyness is a feeling of restlessness and anxiety that most people feel excessively in certain situations. Truly shy people also tend to feel inferior and uncomfortable in social situations.
Maybe the thought of meeting new people makes you feel embarrassed, goosebumps, and sweat. Shyness isn't something you can get rid of just by smiling. This confusion usually doesn't go away on its own.
So here are some steps you can take to boost your confidence and feel more comfortable when you're with other people that I've written about
• Stop comparing yourself to other
Comparing yourself to others is normal. But, it turns out that comparing this will not increase your confidence. It may even have the opposite effect.
When you compare yourself to others, you feel jealous. The more jealous a person is, the worse he feels.
Remember that everyone lives their life in their own way. Life is not a race. If you are jealous of other people's lives, you should remind yourself of your strengths and successes.
• Surround yourself with positive people
The people you spend time with can influence your thoughts and attitudes about yourself, perhaps more than you realize. So pay attention to what other people think of you.
If you feel bad about yourself after being friends with certain people, it may be time to step away from them.
But, on the contrary. You have to be with people who love you and want the best for you. Look for people who are positive and can help boost your self-confidence.
• Taking care of the body
It's hard to feel good about yourself if you overuse your body. On the other hand, if you take care of yourself, you know that you are doing something positive for your body, mind and spirit.
So naturally, you will feel more confident. There are several ways to take care of yourself that can help you feel more confident, including exercising or being physically active that can also increase your self-confidence. Regular exercise can improve body image. When body image improves, the person will feel more confident.
Then, good quality sleep is often associated with positive personality traits such as optimism and self-esteem.
• Find your strength
Let's take a moment to consider shyness from an evolutionary perspective. Discovery can help you make new discoveries. You should highlight your strengths instead of seeing shame as a weakness.
Knowing your area of expertise can really boost your confidence. Are you good at art, or a great researcher. Perhaps you are also a good listener, fun and friendly, so your family always consults with you.
You may need more time to open. But, you have many valuable things, such as empathy, sensitivity, prudence.
• Join in for a thoughtful conversation
If you are shy, casual conversation can become tense. In fact, when you have a lot to say about a particular topic, worrying about how the other person will perceive the conversation, you can get the idea or joke out of your head.
You can nod a lot or ask questions. Therefore, you do not need to provide information voluntarily.
• Be yourself
Some shy people experience social interactions behind a mask of trust. However, pretending until you succeed won't work for everyone. When you show courage you don't really feel, it can make you even more anxious for people to see you.
There's nothing wrong with admitting that you're nervous or that you want to fit in with the group at your own pace. People might even tell you how much they appreciate your efforts. Their positive response alone can boost your confidence.
• Dodging is not the answer
Ignoring social events often seems a lot safer than trying your best to make friends and failing. Avoiding people can protect you from rejection. But on the other hand, you can face loneliness.
If you want to expand your social circle, you need to find ways to connect with other people. You can explore your interests through courses, community events and apps that can help you find friends and potential partners with similar interests.
Those are some of the ways that I have written to increase our self-confidence, all of which can be realized if there is a strong will. So the first thing to do is to instill in ourselves that we want to change.
