Is Success Not a Guarantee?

It is with a heavy head and heavy eyes I write this article this evening. Sitting in the room with my family as the words "Extraordinary Every day" blares from the TV, thanks to my sisters who are watching Zeeworld channel. I really don't know why they love the channel and their series too. For one, it is predictable, as it the story line are usually filled with loopholes. Oh well, I guess one man's food is another man's poison.

As I write this article, I find it hard to concentrate, I think the fact that I haven't had a good sleep in the last one week or so is taking its toll on me. Last night for instance, I had gone to bed 4am and woke up at intervals because I had to do one thing or the other. I can practically feel my head banging. Oh well, I will try to finish this article as soon as I can, and hopefully, go to bed early.

For the past two months or so, a competition has been going on in our community, this competition is in sports, and more specifically, a football competition. I had followed almost every team in the competition closely, as games are only played on weekends when everyone is around, so I have had the time to watch a lot of the games. Today, like most weekends I went to the pitch to watch the semifinal game between two of the semifinalists. I really enjoyed watching them, and it was a really good game. But, unfortunately, this was one of those times where the better team loses. The game dragged on into penalty shootout, and they lost.

I spent most of the journey home thinking about how the event had turned out today. Everyone was confident that they would have made it to the finals. I couldn't help but ask myself:

  • Because the other team won and advanced into the final, does that make them the better team?

Now, this was a question I thought about the two possible answers. If triumphing over a team doesn't make one better, does that mean that sometimes, luck may not be on your side? Also, is it possible that the best just always wins, and it has nothing to do with luck?

I have always been a practical man, I believe if you want something, you work for it. If I am being honest, I have never really believed in luck. Truth is that there is a chance that anything will happen, there is a probability of any event happening, however slim it may be, 0.00000000000001 can make all the difference even though the chances of the event happening is one in 100 trillion.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that success can elude even the most hardworking, talented, determined and committed person needs a little luck to for the success they want to be possible. But I am thinking about whether the work and effort is what put the odds in their favour or luck plays a part too.

Whatever it is, being the best isn't enough, all other factors have to be right, the environment has to be conducive for everything to work out exactly how you want it too. Maybe this is me admitting to luck playing a role in success and it doesn't always follow a trend. Well, I hope our efforts is never in vain.

In conclusion, it turns out nature won the battle and I couldn't keep myself awake long enough to complete the articles, well, I really needed to recharge fully, so nothing to be ashamed of. See you another time.

I believe you have taken enough rest though? Sorry about that.

Well, to me, I would say success is only by Grace and not luck. I don't want to believe in luck because there is nothing like that except you just want to believe such yourself and forget the work of grace but in all, we should be grateful for the success we have won.

The question I'd ask you is: WHAT IS GRACE?

Yeah, I have had rest, but I feel it is not enough.

Football is just luck abeg. If it isn't luck, then you won't see a poor team defeating a world class team. In every game, there's always a probability of a team winning or losing, that probability can as well be thought of as being lucky

I guess that is a good way to put it. That because an event with a slim chance happens, people will/can say it is luck.

It's like asking whether everything is predestined, like whatever choice we make, the outcome is already written. I think what matters is that we win or triumphed over something. We have achieved something. Remember that there's no permanent in this life. Everything changes.

I suppose you are right about that. But I am saying that there is always a possibility for all outcomes.
