Let's take an example.

Find the sum of the first 20 odd numbers. sum=n² or n x n. So 20² =20x20=400. So the sum of the first 20 odd numbers is 400. Now let's try first 20 even numbers. Sum=n(n+1) Therefore,20(20+1)=20x21=420. Hence the sum of the first 20 even numbers is 420. So with these formulas I have given can sharpen your skills in qualitative reasoning.
