Unity in Times of Adversity

A man who seems to be crippled is sitting and waving at the middle of the road for motorists passing by the highway. He is dragging his other leg which seemed to be fractured or hurt by something or he simply met an accident at the road. It also caused him to get bruised on his arms while his leg is obviously in a bad shape as he waves his hand grimacing in pain.

Cars, riders and passers by are only looking and watching him without even stopping to help the poor man get to a hospital.

I have watched this video of a vlogger who acted wounded at the middle of the road. However, no one bothered to stop and help him. Even passers by were only looking at him as he talked to them laboriously with him dragging his wounded leg. You can see the discomfort in his face while trying to get the attention of whoever is willing to help him.

Unfortunately, no one cared to.

Have you at one point of your life lose hope in humanity? As for me, yes. There are instances when I encounter some youngsters who doesn't bother to take whatever am carrying even when I had a baby and a toddler in tow. So far, that was the only thing when I asked myself why our younger generation seems to have lesser sympathy towards others.

An hour or so passed when an elderly man finally came to his aid. At that point in time there were many onlookers who gathered to see how the elderly man could get the badly injured man at the middle of the road.

That moment was perfect enough for him to grab and show how human race loss their ability to be humane. So that when the elderly man was able to get him up, he assured him he is okay.

The vlogger who acted injured told the people around and the vehicles passing by that he was acting. Unbeknownst to the public that he installed a hidden camera to capture everything.

Cruelly, a man on his motorcycle even glared at him and told him that the hospital is just a kilometre away. Why does he need to bother people rather than getting himself to the hospital? That only shows how people nowadays still are cruel even when you're on the verge of death.

Lucky or blessed?

We are people who live in a close-knit community. The act of bayanihan where unity is seen isn't lost even as the days go by.

Accidents happen and it is inevitable no matter how careful we are. So here's the picture, a jeepney had fallen a cliff last month. Luckily it landed on a spot where it was held and wasn't gone all the way down. Actually, I don't know the full details but thankfully the driver and the others are all fine.

Villagers rushed just as the moment they learned about the incident when in fact it was already dark.

The following morning, the people, men and women in the village gathered around to help in towing the fallen vehicle. The women brought over what they can from their homes to the site where they cook food for everyone who was there to help.

Same incident happened in our barangay years ago wherein the famous actor-comedian Tado was among those who perished. It was the bus, Florida they were riding that unfortunately fallen off a deep cliff. It was actually written and published by Xzeon.

The villagers were the first responders before the arrival of medics and policemen and other agencies to help in occurrences as such.

Unity in a place shows how one cares for his brothers, neighbors and others. It should never be out phase from our good moral character because there's no man who will not be needing anyone especially his neighbours.

The golden rule should not be overlooked because wherever you will go, you will need others.

"Do not do unto other what you don't want others do unto you."

Unity isn't only seen during accidents and calamities but in everything the community and its people is going through. What comes with unity are compassion, respect, love sympathy and emphaty, cooperation and everything in between. Thus, the saying says ,"United we stand, divided we fall."

Am not the best mother out there but I try to instill my kids the golden rule whenever a chance for them to learn its meaning arises. It's just like when one of them needs a help and the other seems not to care. Then I will tell them to help the one in need so that when they also need help, then others won't hesitate to. The process goes on a cycle wherein unity is the product. Although kids often forget what is told but when constantly reminding them they will adopt it until they grow older.
