the Language's Origin

What is a word? What was the first language? How did words became words and how was it constructed to relay the message you wanted to say?Where did word come from? If God created man, then who created Him? These were just some of the questions am curius with when I was on my childhood days.

Me and my daughter were munching on some boiled fresh peanuts when she asked in our dialect "ngantu han kali, ma?" which means, what is a word or language? Then my own questions when I was her age or older flashed back.

So, to make her understand it better I tried to tell her a story. As am telling it, I can see more curiusity in her eyes and I know she wants to ask more about it.Perhaps she can't form the words that's why she just listened to my story telling.

Have you heard the biblical story of The Tower of Babel?

We used to attend Sunday schools when we were young. Biblical stories from bible verses were told to teach kids how to behave, obey and honor their parents, and other moral and spiritual lessons were also taught.

One of the stories was Tower of Babel. A story which tells about how different language came about.

According to the Bible, after the great flood the people of Babylon wanted to make a name for themselves by creating a great city and constructed a tower with its top reaching the heavens. It also said that it is to protect themselves from a second great flood. However, God saw what the people was up to and confounded their language and spread them to the faces of the Earth.

Before the creation of the tower until it was being built, the people in the land of Shinar had one language. On the construction of the tower, their language was confused by God making them unable to understand each other.Hence, the construction ceased therefore dividing them into different linguistic groups.

The word babel or balal simply means "to confused... "

Scientifically speaking, there were theories of philosophers, historians and other great people in the past about the origin of language but no strong evidence to support it as writing came later than speech.

As for additional information, the tower was the first skyscraper built. Babylon or Shinar is the present day country we call Iraq. Ruins of the so-called tower can be found there.

Do you believe in the story? Was it a myth? What other origins you knew language came from

In the Bible they give an origin to language, I believe that language is born with every living being on earth, there is language that is common to everyone, such as happiness and sadness, we communicate that without saying words, plants and animals express it too. I also believe that the language of sounds was first. and over time we evolve through families to confuse the enemy.

Jesus is indeed the Light of the World.

โ€œWhen Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, โ€˜I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.โ€™โ€ John 8:12

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16

The Bible is inspired and true. But there are textual variants and some passages need to be examined to be understood. While we do not have the original autographs scholars both liberal and conservative are confident they have the original text (to plus 99% accuracy). There are over 5500 creek manuscripts and about 80000 others. The earliest original is mid 150AD. The gospels were written within the lifetime of witnesses to the resurrection. Only Christianity has this level of incredible evidence. And the early creeds in the gospels (like 1 Corinthians 15) were as early as 6 months after Jesus's resurrected appearances over 40 days and ascension (Book of Acts).
