I was Born in the Country

Before reading, what's your expectations of the title? I am a full blooded Igorot. An indigenous tribe in the northern part of Luzon and I belong to the Bontok ethnolinguistic group.Like our forefathers before us, we live in simplicity but not left behind by civilization. We reside in the mountains as it is what's surrounding us. Our ancestors live mainly on root crops, it was believed that our village produce the sweetest of sweet potatoes,beans and legumes, and rice. The streams or river was once aplenty of big edible water creatures,crabs and small fishes we call gadiw which is catch until today. Wild 🐗, deers and other mountain dwelling animals were also hunted even to this days. But our forefathers knew better. Dam was once proposed in another municipality but it was rejected same with our very own village. Promises of its benefits to the villagers were pledge but we knew better, our mountains are rich in natural resources as well as minefal resources that villagers knew those people are after with.And the destruction of these mountains would bring great devastation to the village in the near future.The good thing is, youths also contributed in the opposition of the so-called proposal.
