moon, oh moon, oh moon.
I wonder what makes you big so soon?
Yesterday, were you little,
Now you're big and gentle.
What dish you been eating?
If you are asking me little child,
Veggies on the table,
I love to have for a dish.
This was a nursery rhyme in Ilocano version my grandma had taught us. It's a child asking the moon.
Analizing it, it's about a child who is a picky eater, wondering what made the moon grow big that fast, esp a viand. And the moon in a gentle but attractive voice replied that it's vegetables he eats for dish..
So much of it.
Last night I went out to pee. Typically, bathroom is outside the house. So, as I was out, I was wowed by the bright illumination outside. Did my business and came out and take some clicks on the bright moon.I gazed at the moon intently, it's not a perfect O yet.
I got inside and checked the calendar.September 2 was the written full moon.So its clear that today, the moon's glow would still get brighter tonight..
This month's full moon is called the Full corn moon by Native Americans.
One such name for the September full Moon was the Full Corn Moon because it traditionally corresponded with the time of harvesting corn in what is now the northeastern United States. It was also called the Barley Moon, as this is the time to harvest and thresh ripened barley. -https://www.almanac.com/content/full-moon-september
Here in our place, we sometimes used the moon as a guide during planting season of crops. Some says, one would have a more bountiful harvest if he/she plants at a certain phase following the moon's phase he/she was born. And in times, leeches-blood sucking freshwater annelid worms come out little to numerous according to the moon's shape.
Basically,we know that there are 4 phases of the moon:the New moon;1st quarter; full moon; and last quarter.
The moon orbits the Earth, and the Earth revolves around the sun so that when moon comes in between Earth and sun, it is not visible to us. Because it is now blocking the sun with its unlit portion facing the Earth which a solar eclipse can happen. This is called the New Moon.
However, as it moves farther away from the sun and the lit portion reaches a half moon,we call this the first quarter phase.
We see full moon phase when the moon is on opposite side of the Earth from the sun. This enables us to see all lit portions of it.A lunar eclipse can also appear in this .
As the moon's size is decreasing or the lit portion we see is decreasing and reaches again half moon,we call this the last quarter..
Did you know that in these phases there are still phases in between?
Absolutely, as the moon won't just jump from one phase to another we have what they call intermediate phases. We first see the C or crescrent shape thin at first and is thickening increasing in size, they call it crescent waxing moon until it reaches D shape(half moon). In between half moon phase and full moon it is called waxing gibbous moon.
Wherefore, from phase O or full moon to last quarter phase we see that it is slowly thinning, its size is decreasing to half moon again. They call it waning gibbous phase. From that phase it goes back to crescent shape which is called waning crescent phase.
Any questions regarding it is highly entertained at the comment sectionπ.
