Academic Break
Hello wonderful friends! Today is the second week of the year, too fast right. Well anyway, it's been two weeks since the class resumes but starting Monday, the Department of Education NCR announced that there will be an academic break or others called it health break.
I wasn't really updated with the news about it since I rarely watched current events news on tv. Maybe because I got tired of watching too much bias on some mainstream media outlet. So the news about it reached to me when my sister in law forwarded a link on our family group chat. She is a teacher by the way.
As we all know, after the Christmas break a lot of people got sick. We were included in that. After the new year celebration I was really sick and I rest for more than two days. I have to recovered as much as possible because online classes resume on the following day. I have to guide my children with their modular worksheets as well. Luckily I recovered quickly but then I passed it on on my eldest son.
That week my eldest wasn't able to attend his online class, unlike my other son. But before the week ended, when Aaron my eldest is already fine, my youngest Athan got sick too. Just like his brother, I didn't let him attend his classes. We just checked his messenger from time to time to catch up with the lessons. Upon checking the messages from their group chat, I found out that a lot of students or some of their classmates wasn't able to attend the classes as well because of being sick.
On the following week, when everything was fine, both of them finally attended their respective online classes. Just that some of their subject teachers wasn't able to take the online class because they were also sick. Athan's class adviser even mentioned on Monday that there might be a modules retrieval this week, so on the following days I helped him in answering some of the worksheets we've missed last week. I didn't have problem with Aaron though, because he knows what to do, except for Math because their lessons are getting harder each day.
What is academic break? An academic break (or scheduled break) can be taken when no courses are offered for a graduate student’s program within a particular term, or there is a scheduled break within a program (e.g. summer term) Link here. With all honesty, this is the first time I encountered this term, probably because graduate students or masteral students are the ones who experienced this most.
From my understanding, basically the reason for this academic health break was related with the surge of cases nationwide. Students and teachers wasn't spared from being sick that's why a one week rest from school might be a good help.
For sure even the parents are happy with these news because taking care of sick family members take a lot of stress. Because of that, the kids school activities weren't taken care of. I myself, is okay with this so that my kids can catch up with all the lessons they missed when they were sick.
Just last night, Athan's class adviser confirmed this by sending a message on the group chat. I know the one week rest from school will refresh the minds of every students. One more thing I just hope they won't spend this time by doing unnecessary stuffs most specially playing more with gadgets instead take this time to give their body a full rest, so that they can come back with their online class feeling better and healthy.
