Nothing great comes into the life of a mortal without a curse - Sophocles

I thought I wouldn’t be posting anything more on the blog today. I started looking for materials that would help me explain the abuse of the internet to students because I am now working on it with them and came across Netflix's documentary "The Social Dilemma". I watched it as an enchanted movie and upon completion I wanted to share my impressions with you.

The title of this article greets you as an introductory quote before the start of the film itself. I’m not going to tell you this movie, it’s impossible. I'll tell you what it's about and share my impressions with you. I'm just going to say that I believe that absolutely everyone should watch it.As a small incentive, I will only show you the official trailer for it.

Rational consciousness has collapsed. She knelt the moment we rode the Instagram wind with the daily obsessive need to spy on other people, as if we were going to miss something very important. The twist in the story, we missed nothing, except that the child of our friend burped, which is not crucial for our existence. She knelt down because while we look at others with one eye, we choose a filter with the other to match them with the same intensity as they lie to us. And how she knelt down. Especially when we have decided to stop believing in exact science and data, while unconditionally handing over our trust to YouTube shalabayzers. And while the rational part of consciousness sinks deeper and deeper into darkness, in its place comes its majesty - collective thought.

A suitable mediocre figure with whom you can do as you want and as you like. It is submissive, it is very resistant to critical thought that is undermined by the rational, and most importantly, it is perfect for manipulation. An elitist would say - ah, you poor mortals are not even capable of resisting the primary urge, while on the other hand, the creator of the documentary "The Social Dillema", Jeff Orlovski, reminds us that we have been powerless under the digital paw for more than a decade. In complete magnetization and ignorance, we discovered everything about ourselves, without even being aware of it, while privacy as a concept evaporated in the thin air together with the raid. How? So while reading this you hold the phone in your hand or it is very close to you while you check out of the corner of your eye if someone has sent you something. Well, this is exactly the topic of "The Social Dillem" - why we all use it so passionately.

"The Social Dillema" is not just a documentary that puts a finger in your eye and laughs at you because you knelt before the gods of Google or Instagram, but because we all together allowed these places to become a battlefield and a terrain for racial segregation, verbal abuse, conspiracy theories, false news, belittling and belittling basic human rights. The place of fun and leisure has become a political and social construct for sending passionate messages, an outpouring of frustration and causing unrest in every sense of the word.

The actors of the documentary, who are not only analysts and theorists of modern society, but also a part of the system they created and in which we all participate today, discover how every social network and every platform for socializing and photography has become something completely different.

When you think a little better, the goal of every product creator is to make the user envious of him. First of all, satisfied, and then envious. Social networks, operating systems that run phones, computers and all the wonders of modern technology have become a kind of narcotic. Something that is easy to get used to, but hard to undress. Some groups laughed out loud about ten years ago when social network rehab clinics appeared. However, statistics highlighting the marked increase in suicides, more severe forms of depression and anxiety since 2010 (when social networks gained momentum), especially when it comes to younger people, signal that rational consciousness has lost this battle and that social networks and telephones are creating an identical form of addiction such as gambling or individual opiates.

I will end with another quote from the movie: "If you do not pay for the product, then you are the product"

If I remember correctly, Sophocles lived in the 5th century BC. He never left Athens. He participated in her political life and was a supporter of Pericles, I hope I remembered well.
