Legalization of Marijuana

Marijuana has a chemical that can alter the mind. It is an addictive drug with harmful effects on health if abused.

The legalization of marijuana has been a debate for over a century because its legalization is said to be a potential risk on public health’s safety. However, doing nothing over it can contribute to the years of continuous criminalization of a huge number of youth who are being caught with the possession of this drug.

The legalization of marijuana is being opposed due to its supposed risks involving the safety of public health. The major fear that comes from the legalization of marijuana is its abuse that can trigger a significant increase in the marijuana usage. If marijuana is legalized, the opposition also believe that it will lead the state to an epidemic. On the other hand, the perspective of people who wants the legalization of marijuana is it will reduce the harm in terms of ceasing to criminalize young people with the possession of marijuana.

Subsequently, its legalization will promote consumer safety because there will be standard regulation that comes along with it. People who approve marijuana’s legalization emphasize that the power and funds that are being diverted to marijuana could be used to control more serious crimes and problems instead.

In my perspective, although both arguments regarding the legalization of marijuana have valid points, I believe that marijuana should be legalized. In a bigger picture, the benefits of the legalization of marijuana can outweigh its risks, including the benefit of a serious number of youth who are being criminalized with the possession of marijuana. It is true that the legalization of marijuana can potentially lead to increased consumption. However, it is also important to note that its legalization also means that there will be standardized processes to follow, and it would be regulated for the safe use of people who will consume marijuana.
