Fortunately, technology is now quite advanced. Now, with just a smartphone camera, you can take great photos! What do you need to pay attention to when you want to take pictures at night and in low light? I try to give some tips for you.

  • Take advantage of Night Mode

Indeed, not all cellphones have Night Mode in it, but for latest production cellphones, they must have Night Mode. With Night Mode, you can still take good pictures even in low lighting conditions at night.

Night Mode with ISO 100
Night Mode with ISO 3200

How does Night Mode work? Typically, smartphone cameras will use long shutter speeds (slow shutter speeds) to capture detailed scenes while capturing more light. In addition, this mode is connected with a flash to illuminate subject and foreground of the shot.

  • Using additional lighting

Actually, using a smartphone flash is not really recommended. This is because flash light is harsh and can sometimes damage detail and depth of the photo. However, if you really need to take pictures in dark conditions, then flash is the best option.

Use of street lighting to get a brighter picture

There are other options besides flash, namely buying portable LED lights that can be installed on your smartphone. LED lights have a brighter lighting than flash.

  • Using manual mode

Some of latest smartphones usually already have this feature, some others need to download third-party applications to get Manual Mode. With this mode, you are free to set the ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture as you wish.

  • Use tripod

Photographing at night is prone to shaking which can make photos blurry. To prevent this, you can use additional accessories such as a tripod. The point is, so that handle is more sturdy and shock-resistant. If without a tripod, smartphone camera will shake following our breath and body movements.

Look for a tripod that is sturdy, stable and doesn't fall off easily. As an additional option, look for a tripod whose legs can bend flexibly. Flexible tripod legs can be attached to tree branches or poles so that our photos become more dynamic.

There is also a tripod that is equipped with a Bluetooth remote control and can take photos from a distance, this will make it easier when taking photos.

Camera quality is very important in this case because shooting at night requires a camera with a high resolution. Those are some tips from me if you want to take photos at night and in low light. Hopefully it can add to your insight, thank you for reading to the end!

That's great point regarding clicking images at night but you know what I love to do. I love to click images in daylight by minimising light intensity. That result have another level of quality. Would like to recommend you, try to click in daylight by minimising intensity of light first.
