Trust

I trust you. Trust me, i can do it. He is the only one i trust. Do you trust me?. Never trust anyone.

These above sentence pops up most times in our day to day lives, but some just make use of the word "trust" so carelessly like its a slogan. Many even use it to persuade others into believing their agenda or motive or even actions are genuine. so let me also ask you, what does trust mean to you?, i don't mean the regular dictionary definition, i mean to you as an individual. What could make you say you trust someone?.

Well, i hope you took a minute or two to pause and answer those questions. I guess i would also have to answer some of them too. From my own perspective i would say trust is the believe that something or someone is reliable. The word trust goes with being trustworthy.

The word trust has been misplaced and used for all sort of unruly situation today. Do you really know what it means to be trustworthy. When someone say's i trust you, that used to mean something. There is an emotional stability within you because you know that the person you said that word to would feel obligated not to break that trust.

Let me share with you this story, sometime ago there was this business man who had an important meeting to attend but he couldn't get to an airport because he would because he went on a vacation with his little daughter so he thought the best way would be to drive there knowing fully well that it would take 3 days and nights. So they packed up and started the journey.

On the first night, his little daughter who has never slept outside before was so scared, she asked "Daddy where are we going to?", the father looked at her and replied "we are heading to Eko hotel in Lagos". She asked again "have you been there before?" No, the her dad replied. Then do you know the way there? maybe we can read the map. There was a short moment of silence. She broke he silence again, Do you know how to read the map?, the the father said, we would get there safely my dear. She then paused for a while and asked again, Where are we going to eat?. We could stop by some restaurants on the way when we are hungry. Do you know if there are restaurants on the way? No, but we will be able to find some. So the question and answer session continued for a number of times until she just stopped talking or asking any questions.

On the third night, the father noticed that his daughter has stopped asking questions. He then asked her, my dear, do you Know Where we are going to? She replied, yes, we are going to Eko hotel in Lagos. Amused the father asked Do you know how we are going to get there? She replied, No. Then why did you stop asking? Then she answered "BECAUSE DADDY IS DRIVING". That answer shocked the father.

The like girl even though she wasn't total sure of the details of the movement and how they plan to get to their destination, she didn't bother asking anymore questions because she trust's that as long as her dad was the one driving, then nothing can go wrong. That was just a little scenario of how trust works. Though a person might not really know all the details but just because the you are involved and from experience they trust you and wouldn't bother too much about it. That is also how recommendations work, whereby someone recommends you for a position at a company and the company doesn't required much verification form you because whomever must have gained the trust of that company

Trust isn't something that just springs up. It is something that is earned over time and it is continuously tested by different situations. It is earned based on your dealings with others. Most people say trust no one, well that is not far from the truth considering the kind of world we now live in but that doesn't mean there are no more trustworthy people. There are but they are rare and their numbers just keeps reducing by the day. You know as humans we expect that when we wake up in the morning, the sun should rise. That is an example of trust. I still trust and believe there are still trustworthy people in this world. Then again if there isn't any how about we make a difference, you and i.

Yes, i was referring to you reading this now. We don't have to follow the crowd. We could stand out and make a real difference in the world.

I challenge you to prove the world wrong and show them that trustworthy people still exist.
