I have written quite a few articles on the Blockchain Domains, particularly from Unstoppable Domains
Check them out to know more about them:
Full explanation of what Blockchain domains are?
Step-by-step guide on how to buy them
Layer2 Polygon integration for claim fees waiver
Since we have covered how to buy these domains, today I want to focus on the extensions that are available
Currently there are 10 extensions on Unstoppable Domains of which 9 are available to purchase, which .blockchain extension to be made available in the future.
Of these extension on .zil is on the Zilliqa blockchain whiche the rest are on the Ethereum blockchain (or Polygon for layer2 claims)
Earlier extensions
Initially there were only 2 extensions that were available on Unstoppable Domains
.Crypto on Ethereum & .zil on Zilliqa
Then a few month ago new domain extensions were introduced
Which domains to consider?
From the above screenshot you can see that many of the extensions are use case specific, that is not to say say that it can't be used for other purpose, but with the specific extension name the intent is better communicated.
For example: bch2moon.wallet gives the impression that the user intends to used it as a wallet address, but one can easily create and host a website on it as well.
My personal preference:
These are just my personal preference of extension when it comes to buying a domain name
.Crypto
This is the original extension and still has a lot of preference in the community, moreover most of the domains listed on Opensea.io are .crypto domains.
Another thing that makes .Crypto domains worth the first preference is that they are neutral in nature, meaning they do not signify any one or type of crypto assets so can be used for various purpose
.X
This is a fairly simple extension that is short and simple and like the .Crypto extension is neutral in nature.
It is also a premium domain extension as it used $100 for a similar keyword with .Crypto extension
Space.x was gifted to Elon Musk by Unstoppable Domains through twitter, though if he accepted or not we don't know: here's the tweet if you want to check it out
.Coin and .Bitcoin
These are also good extensions but they are specific to a certain Crypto asset i.e. obviously .Bitcoin is for Bitcoin
The .Coin extension is in collaboration with Circle so is more inclined towards the USDC but I find it to be useful for other coins as well.
.NFT and .Wallet
These is very specific extensions i.e. for NFTs and for wallets
I had purchased 1bchclub.wallet for the specific purpose of representing a wallet if it ever reach 1BCH and many people are purchasing .NFT extension domains for set up their galleries displaying all the NFTs they own
.888 and .dao
These are super specific domains; .888 for luck or gambling related and .dao for well dao (or Decentralized Autonomous Organization) related.
These are still great and I own domain with .888 extension
They are low in preference is firstly because dao is a very specific name and secondly 888 is a numbered domain extension and adding a number to the keyword of your domain name can reduce its price
To know more check out my article Why you should consider buying a domain name with a number?
.Zil
I hate to put this in the last as Zilliqa is an awesome blockchain project with great development, but when rest of the domains are on Ethereum it gets pushed to the bottom of my preference.
However, that doesn't mean that this doesn't have potential. It is a great extension and since ZIL is the native token of the blockchain you are getting the most valuable name of that blockchain.
It is a great alternative to the Ethereum (and Polygon L2) domains and you should definitely consider it. I haven't been able to think of a good keyword for something that signify Zilliqua use. I haven't yet come up with something that I can associate that.
That was the list
Do note: that this is just my personal preference of what I would consider and is not in any way a advise on what you should do, always do your own research and find the domain that has value and use to you.
Excellent post, and very well described the different options. I have picked up quite a few domains from UD. I have one which is CryptoMaverick.coin, and a few .crypto and .888 domains with the word "meta". It's like buying land ;-)
