Each individual is consisting of repeated activities every day. Those repeated activities make our day either busy nor continuously moving to accomplish it. As a simple description, habits are the routines or behaviors we normally do subconsciously. Those are the repetition of activities that have little or no thought to do each day. Since the pandemic is over a year, most of the time spent is in our home especially on the days where total lockdown was implemented throughout the country.
Everyone has habits. They can be good; they can be bad or they can be totally neutral. They’re all similar in that they are routines or patterns of behavior that are performed almost automatically. Habits don’t require conscious thought or effort. In many instances, we are not aware of the process around them, we simply find ourselves doing the things that are our habits. Hence, how can we improve our lifestyle through habits?
I remember those days where my unconscious mind is hunger to learn and wanted to discover new ideas. Before, I am just an average student who wants to learn as well to enjoy life as a student. I already mentioned to my previous articles that my high school life has been the best part of my journey as a student. I admit that I cannot comprehend that time. When my English teacher wanted me to explain the short quotation from the discussion, I uttered silence because I cannot construct and speak English confidently. I felt humiliated that time because everyone in the class was staring at me and it led my consciousness to start new habits.
After that, I came to realize that I should improve myself so that I can understand the things not only in school but also in society and around me. Besides, improving yourself than yesterday is much essential to function well. Some of my habits that I continuously practice and normally do:
Reading books
The moment I felt humiliated, the more eagerness I want to learn. In order to improve my skills, I read, read, read, read any books with English language (obob kasi talaga ako sa English at Math 😂). Honestly, that is exactly our teacher have been told to us to develop reading, communicating, and speaking English---read as much as you can. I made reading books as my ultimate hobby that time. I spent half of the day to read and I found myself engaged. In addition, I thought that entering college was more difficult and English was the foremost medium in speaking, writing, and listening. That is why I became more persevere in reading books.
Today, I am still engaging in reading because it truly improves our mind. But I can’t say that my English skills are in that good because I think there still ways I want to improve and lots of grammatical errors and it’s okay then. In other countries in the world, grammar is not an issue, only here in the Philippines. As long as you can construct and speak English, just continue it. Improving skills is more important than avoiding to try because of fear of making mistakes.
Considering myself first than others
One of my significant learnings this year, do not ever forget yourself because of others. “Do not settle for less”. Even if we always heard this saying but it gives sense, right? I grew up in a world where people have always commented you, judgements, gossips and so on. I always consider the people around me and suffer myself in drowning just to satisfy their opinions. As I grow, I realized that no matter how good or bad you are, people will always have something to say towards you. We can validate themselves but make sure to focus on your self-growth first.
Limit the use of social media
In the techno-world that we are all in, it is not surprising if a 5-year-old child can scroll up and scroll down. Due to rapid growth of technology, social media has been the foremost platform we used today. Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube are some of the most common and visited social media sites in the world. I am one of those people who always been updated and check if there is new in my social media accounts. I remember the days where I used all of my time in scrolling up and down and sharing reacts to various posts in social world. I came across to the thought of limiting myself in using social media when I starting focusing on the realistic things. I usually deactivated my accounts when I feel the need of silence and peace. We can see that social media nowadays are quite immense, toxic and lots of perspectives that might affect you. We can use those for fun and leisure hours but do not let social media eats your precious time.
Arranging my stuff
If you would come into our house and you see the unending sparse things, you probably think that it is all mine. We are 4 sibs in the family and I am the girly one. All of the pampaarte things that you might see belong to me because the other sibs have no likes and attention to my stuff. There are times that I always misplacing my things and ended up in finding the whole day. To avoid this, every time I use certain stuff, I placed it to its home especially my clothes. Washing it thoroughly, disposing, fixing the kitchenwares and oragnizing my workloads are with my routines. Arranging my stuff is part of my habits so if I need something, I can easily find them.
Appreciate little things in life
The more you discover the beauty of something, the more you appreciate it. All of the things we see around us are here to perform their functions whether it is living or non-living things. Sometimes, we tend to see the big things and forget the essence of small things. They won’t become bigger if they not once became smaller. In life, I learned valuing things. I see how important those small things to fulfill our needs. The world would not have billions of monies without a coin. Even life would not be wonderful without rejection. So, learn to appreciate little things because someday, those little things will become the big things you’ve been waiting for.
It is inevitable if we sometimes do lousy habits. However, do not let those habits conquer your time.
Make your habits more interesting and help you not only to improve your skills but also develop your mind and perspectives to improve yourself that may lead you to be a better individual.
How about you?
What are your habits?
Yesss, limiting yourself from social media which will not gave you something good is a wrong move. It will only gave you negative thoughts and waste of time. Before Im playing mobile legends for whole day straight and right now I can't even open it. I tried to change my hobbies
