Hypochondria is an intense anxiety related to one's own health, that is, an obsession with the fear that he has suffered from some severe and incurable disease, usually one hour, the other hour. A person can spend his whole life worrying about his imaginary diseases. He reacts to every disturbance with the suspicion that he is seriously ill, he continuously visits numerous doctors and goes through all possible examinations, but he can never be dissuaded, or only for a short time, until the next crisis appears. There are no problems with physical health, but anxiety is very real and hypochondria is really a real, serious disease.

The disease manifests itself either in the form of crises, or is constantly present as anxiety, various variable pains, palpitations, body cramps, tingling, irregular bodily functions, which a person immediately perceives as evidence of his imaginary disease. I am often afraid that the patient is producing some physical disorders, which provokes even greater physical disorders, but also fear, so there can be a panic attack. The person suffers intensely, is socially isolated, obsessive-compulsive disorders often develop, for example, he often washes his hands, and depression is inevitable in the later phase of the disease. Depressive thoughts are especially severe within the hypochondria, where a person can really think that his organs have stopped and that his body is no longer working. Anxiety is actually originally related to the fear of death and aging, so it intensifies with aging.

Hypochondria is different from a phobia of a disease (nosophobia) in which a person is afraid of getting sick through an infection. In the case of hypochondria, it is especially important to include psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment. Psychotropic drugs, antidepressants that increase serotonin levels, as well as benzodiazepines are used. The hypochondriac usually does not take medication for fear of damaging it. It is necessary to provide a lot of understanding, compassion and support, but the relationship is based on finding a solution, so it is applied primarily cognitively.
