It was a fine sunny day in the quiet little town of Shepherdsville. Ronny got up and was excited to work on his truck. He found a new way of life of getting excited over little things. He now sees everything as a gift since he still could not believe that he could live freely and breathe the sweet air of freedom, he thought that he was not going to be released from prison.
He was wrongly accused of rape and murder and he was just so lucky that he was the beneficiary of the effort of a non-profit group that seeks to balance the scale of justice and was trying to right the wrongs made by the justice system.
By the relentless efforts and compassion of the group, they were able to overturn the verdict of Ronny's case and he was let go. Seven years had gone by so fast, seven years he suffered inside for a crime he did not commit. But now he's free and he was granted a second shot at life.
Although he was still out of job, he's helping his old man fix cars. But today, he was ecstatic since he was gonna work on his own pick-up truck. Something that he could use to move around town and it was just what he needs because he was going to start looking for a job.
He opened up the hood of the truck.
"Hey dad, can you pass me the 13?" he asked and a couple of seconds later, a wrench was tossed near his foot. His dad was working behind me, about a few feet from each other. His dad was working on an old Mercedes.
Ronny bent down to reach for the wrench. He got it and stood back up. He bent forward to tinker inside and around the engine. He pulled back to wipe his sweat from his forehead using his right arm and with a loud bang followed by a muffled thud, Ronny was on the ground.
His father hurriedly rushed to him and thought that he was electrocuted but the blood on the left side of his chest told him something else.
A few minutes after, the police and the ambulance came but there was nothing anybody could do. Ronny was gone with a single gunshot wound on the chest. A bullet right through the heart was the cause of his demise.
An investigation ensued but they could not immediately discern and they could not readily build up a scenario and a plausible explanation.
They followed the trajectory of the bullet that took his life but the only place that it could possibly come from was from the street or from the trees across the street. They found no shell casing anywhere near the crime scene so they broaden the search radius.
And from a distance, some miles away from their house, there situated a firing range. One of the offered conclusions was one member of the range misfired and sent a bullet astray. And through some unfortunate twists of fate, the bullet from the firing range crossed their thick walls and traveled the mini forest next to it and then managed to cross some houses without hitting anyone or anything else, cross the street, and hit Ronny right through the heart.
That's the conclusion offered by the police and the family could not believe it. Not in the slightest.
It may sound ridiculous but it could very well be a possibility. Just as Sherlock Holmes said, "When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
Years after his departure, the family could still not accept the lousy explanation, and another investigation was lost. And with that, they managed to dig up the truth and they were able to arrest the real guilty party.
A cousin of the victim and a friend of his drove by their street and shot him from range. They weren't really mean to kill him, but they were just trying to scare him. But then again, it was still a lucky shot from hell.

I was watching last night something about mysterious deaths and I thought of this scenario. That's really quite the unlucky shot. Imagine having a second shot at life and your just shot down when you are about to start. Wew.
