The Supercar
Gregg McDowell got up from his bed with a twinkle in his eyes. He rushed to the bathroom and was cheerfully singing a pop song while taking a cold shower. He was just so excited that he skipped a lot of steps on his usual shower routine every morning. He figured that he could be back again in his house in no time once he was done with his fantastic errand today.
Today is a special day for Gregg. Even more special than his birthday. He was waiting for several weeks already for this very special today. Today will mark the long wait that he has done because the dealership of the car where he ordered his new car will finally release his unit.
It was a limited car that was imported abroad because it wasn't manufactured in the US. The car boasts a super speed that is comparable to any rocket ship in existence. It also has a torque that's seriously overkill for any land vehicle. It could go from 0 to 85 miles per hour in just a second. If that's not fast, I don't even know what is.
He got dressed as fast as he could and he hailed a taxi cab using his mobile phone and just a few minutes of waiting a cab was outside his house. The door was opened for him and he hopped in at the back of the cab. He could not contain his excitement and he was just bombarding the driver with such details of his new car.
The cab driver was just so grateful that after about half an hour, they arrived at their destination and he was finally free of Gregg's relentless humble bragging.
He tipped the driver enormously and he went inside the dealership with springs on his every step.
He was greeted by several employees and he was ushered behind the showroom where his supercar is waiting for him.
He inspected the unit. He slowly walked around the car keenly observing for any physical defects or marks. He found none. He popped the hood, opened up the trunk and again, the car was clear of any imperfection. He opened the doors and then scoured every inch of the car's interior and he was seemingly satisfied. Finally, he was told that he could start the car so he could test other functions which required electricity. He did so, and he tested every single function there is, aside from the air bags of course.
He was again ushered inside to finalize the paperworks. He was just so excited that he didn't even bother reading everything there is to read. After signing the last page of the contract, he was handed the keys and he was good to go.
He rode the car again and this time, the doors were open so he could take home the beauty he just purchased. He started the engine and with a few revs, he was off to the streets. He decided to take it for a spin before heading home.
He sped through the streets and just stopped at the traffic lights. He halted at one and an old man on a scooter was on his side. Gregg had his windows down and saw the old guy looking at his car.
"Such beauty huh? It has a massive engine too."
"Looks really new. Have you just got it?" the old man asked.
"As a matter of fact, yes."
"The interior looks pristine and real prime works too." the old guy said as he was leaning closer to have a peek inside. Gregg wanted to show off too so he lowered every window so the old guy could see.
"Such wonderful works, eh?"
"Indeed," the old man agreed as he was looking around.
The light turned from red to green and Gregg wanted to show off even more so he stepped hard, metal to the pedal. The car zoomed away and the coast was clear for him. Gregg glanced on the rear view mirror and saw a dot seeming to be coming at him at a very fast speed. Within moments, the dot became bigger and drove past him.
He couldn't believe that something was even faster than his new supercar. He maintained the same speed and from his front, a dot was coming to him at the same speed as before, this time it went by him to his back. He was shocked and he thought that he was humiliated because it seemed that whatever it was came back just to pass him again.
He stepped on the brakes and looked back. This time, a loud thud rang around and something hit his new supercar's back bumper. He angrily stepped out of the car cursing.
He saw the old guy lying on the ground, dying, and his scooter in shambles. Gregg dialed 911 but from the looks of it, the old guy isn't gonna make it.
"Is there anything I could do for you? " Gregg asked the dying old guy.
And in a broken voice, the old guy tried to answer, "yes, unhook my suspender from your side mirror."
HI!
This has been an adaptation of a joke I read somewhere. I guess you can say that I ran out of ideas on what to write so here it is, something really bizarre. I just hope that you were able to get the punchline even though it was a long time coming.
Anyway, I want to thank you for being here yet again and I am just so glad that you are sticking with me through this journey through read. And until we read again...
Cheers!!!
